Zombie Forever by Spelchan

[raw]
made by Spelchan for MINI39 (-)
The theme for mini-Ludum Dare 39 is hindsight with the idea being to be a redo of any theme. As the previous LD had the theme "You are the Villain" at the same time there was a school shooting, I went with a less violent theme. For this mini-LD I want to do the game I was originally envisioning. A tactical combat game where you control a zombie army. The army starts off with a single zombie and grows as you kill people. This is done as a Jam entry as I had help with the artwork and used art from some of my other games.

Never had time to have the three levels I originally planned for but am going to continue working on the game and will post the other two levels in the future. Likewise, I am planning on adding sound to the game, fixing some of the graphical issues, fine tuning the levels, and fixing any other bugs that are brought to my attention.

Fun. Though I keep killing my zombies by having them walk into each other...

I like the cartoon in the front, the character graphics, and the game idea is a good one. But I think the background tiles need some work, and I wish it didn't show me the moves for enemies that are far away - it just looks like they're having seizures. With a bunch of layers and some more depth, this would be a really unique game.

Nice concept! My zombies kept accidentally slashing my other zombies by accident and 1MP zombies are pests. To help both problems, you could have a ZvZ attack result in the death of the attacked zombie, and increase the attacking zombie by 1 HP/MP. I agree that you don't need to show human movements that are out of eyesight. Or, if you don't want to change that, you could animate the camera movement rather than jolting it, so you have an idea of where these places are. One final change I'd request is to sort the zombie resolution order by proximity, such that several nearby zombies get moved before the camera jumps away to a group of far-away zeds. Good work.
