The Final War by Kynrael

[raw]
made by Kynrael for MINI28 (COMPO)
This is my miniLD #28, "The Final War".

It's a meta-order strategy game, where you have to worry more about global tactics than about individual soldiers.

I was trying to capture that detached feeling that WW1 generals must have had when ordering hundredth of thousand of men to charge, knowing very well that a lot would die but seeing the global plan.

How to play is in the game : at the start, click "Help", and read it thoroughly. It might be confusing otherwise.

This was created using Flashpunk, As3SFXR, and an explosion generator.

I hope you have fun, and good luck !

(Windows version is a .zip containing the .swf)
(Source is all the project files including .psds, temps, etc contained in a .zip. It's probably a mess.)

pretty awesome! I think I may have started with too much money? the tank rush tactic of just hitting advance over and over worked pretty well.

@Folis
Thanks ! :)

It was pretty close just finishing the game, so I preferred to give a lot of starting money to the player so it could be fun over challenging.
It needs a lot of fine tuning concerning starting money/men, AI behavior and costs of each available orders to flesh it out into something that requires more strategical thinking and less button mashing.

So... many... options. I've always had a personal dislike of large-scale tactical stuff, but regardless of personal grudges this thing requires depth and planning. Very nice indeed.

Took me a little while to figure out what was what, ended up winning by doing an even defence following by a strong push on one of the edges right after an air strike, they fell like flies :P

i had fun :)

I felt like there was something here, but it was all so chaotic and hard to tell what was going on or what would be a good decision to make that I didn't get a feel for the strategy. I managed to win by just spawning a ton of soldiers and sending them forward, and using bombs to take out the machine gunners. There doesn't seem to be much point in guarding. The interface needs more feedback - even after reading the help twice, I kept forgetting what the icons meant, and often I wasn't sure if I had even clicked the button or not. Really like the idea and some of the presentation though!
