Actual War by devinmoore

[raw]
made by devinmoore for MINI28 (COMPO)
This game is based on actual stories I heard from my grandfather that occurred during WW2. Some of them are pretty tame, some are incredibly painful to imagine. I created this to help give people a first-hand idea of what it takes mentally to decide to survive warlike conditions: luck, strategy, and terrible, impossible choices. The game is very simple; I did all the artwork as well as the single-page php implementation.

It's an interesting little thing to play with, and some decisions you have to do to finish, are decisions that I couldn't make.

Very short, but it makes its point! Surviving war takes luck, and a no conscience.

Very depressing, probably close to reality. It fits the theme quite good.

Upon completion two things struck my mind. First of all the terrors of war which are evident in so many stories.

The second... your grandpa shot a kid?!

i love watching war comedies like Hogan's Heroes and M.A.S.H, which make an art of dancing around the harshness of war, these choices remind me of what is lurking behind these shows, real horror.

I wouldn't be able to make most of these choices if they presented themselves to me.

Wonderful artwork! Depressing but cool! I wish it were longer. Well done.

Well, um...it's kind of boring. And the story doesn't interest me. :/

Good God, you do die a lot.

War, huh.

What is it good for.
