Shapeshifter Biker by Reuno

[raw]
made by Reuno for LD35 (JAM)
HOW TO PLAY :
- turn with left/right
- accelerate with up
- shapeshift with space
- see your collection with escape
Collect all the blue boxes to win. Avoid enemies and obstacles, except if you shapeshift into something that can protect you.

You're a shapeshifter biker, all alone in a desolated world, chased by angry ducks in black trucks. To escape, you need to collect all the Animal Powers scattered across the land, in mysterious blue boxes.

Once you collect an Animal Power, you can shapeshift into that Animal for 10 seconds maximum. Some animals destroy enemies, some are invulnerable, some are scary, some can ride through lava, other can fly, some are invisible, and other are, well, surprising. Once you've acquired at least one power, you can't remain shaped as a biker for long and will be randomly assigned a new shape every 15 seconds.

There are 20 different animals to collect, will you catch them all ?

Note : Due to a bug in Unity (apparently), the gamepad controls may be messed up in the Web version. I'd suggest downloading either the PC or Mac build as the game really runs poorly on the web in comparison, but in any case, if you decide to play on the web, play with your keyboard, not your gamepad.

Music by my band, Uniform Motion.
Special thanks to Andy for the songs that kept me motivated during these 3 days, to Karine for the ideas, to Julien for his help tracking a few pesky bugs, and to the cool people at Motion Twin for letting me join them for the weekend.

This is quite the neat idea, and I had quite a decent amount of fun playing it. I did enjoy the nice peaceful music *quite* a bit, and I felt like it fit the game.

Beautiful game, very nice choice of colors great effects, models and animations.

I wish the music would not reset upon death, since I die often I never get to hear the full song.

Interesting and odd take on the theme but quite enjoyed the bike mechanic though the controls are a bit annoying at times, especially when half a feet near a pickup and you can only go around it.
Graphics are nicely done too but please next time put some mute key for the music. Nothing personal but since it's voiced, it gets VERY repetitive...
Another note, the text for the pickups goes by really fast, can't even read them past the title.

Nice entry otherwise for the jam, kudos.

Awesome job, clean design and great music! Just thought it was a shame that opening the collection didn't pause the game, it made it hard to read what each transformation did.

One of the best jam games I played so far, great graphics, music and love the smoke effect from the bikes, plus the abilities of the different animals. One thing though I can't imagine getting all 19 power ups to beat this game.

Great game.
The graphisms are nice but often you dont really understand if it's a wall, an hole or a tree.

Also the shapeshifting is nice but you dont really know what kind of advantage the shape give you. It could als be nice to have a quick shape select and assign our own shape (if i want to shift as dragon, I have to swith hamster first, and it's not nice)

Great job anyway. And the music is nice and nice part of the "mood"

Amazing. The music puts it in a whole different level. Was kinda missing a story that goes with the mood of the music. Could use a bit more on-screen direction (goals).

Guys, this is really cool. The music is awesome (congrats!), the art style has real personality and the bike physics are spot on. It's really fun to just drift around and I like how you've added a little bit of randomness to the drifting.

The only thing that bugged me was the tune starting out every time you restart. I also felt that the theme was tacked on but then I thought... hey, Shapeshifting biker, that's pretty cool.

Anyway congratulations. Really great work.

Perfect mood. The music, the graphics, the biker idea... One of the best games I've seen so far around here. And beautiful. You really made something unique with all the ingredients you used to create your game, and that is not easy at all.
Congratulations :)

Amazing graphics. I really enjoyed the different forms (Eagle is my preferred).

After some time the biker disappeared. At the beginning it looked like a camera problem but I think that it was related to the position of the biker, but really awesome entry.

Really really fantastic. Great music, great style (I'm also pretty partial to your title font). I wish there had been a bit of a longer led on your opening track without voice, as someone who was exceptionally bad at bike controls I got to hear the first line oer and over and over again. But definitely a standout, and a great use of theme.

The art style in this was fantastic and that music was amazing. Looks like I've found a new band to follow which is always a good thing. The simple gameplay also worked well and was quite addictive in wanting to come back and last longer to hear more of the song. A nice touch. Definitely one of my favourite entries so far.

The music is fantastic and everything about the game was fun! My only niggle is that the theme could be better exploited in the mechanics. You could have a little GUI element in the corner explain what the animal is capable of so that the player isn't just shapeshifting for no reason.

Overall 4.5/5 without hesitation!
