Psychopaths by GammaS

[raw]
made by GammaS for LD35 (JAM)
Psychopaths is a game about changing shape to befriend the other shapes in our city, as they are under attack from psychopathic shapes (Yellow and Red shapes). You must lead them into your safe zone (Blue building) to protect them. The more shapes you collect the more points you score, shapes which have less sides and are slower give the most points. Having shapes following you give more points than when they are in the safe zone, so if you think you can keep your shapes from being eaten by the cannibalistic psychopaths then don't drop them off and keep them following you for extra points.

Controls:
WASD - Movement
Q - Shapeshift into a smaller shape
E - Shapeshift into a bigger shape
R - Release all of your followers when you are in the safe zone, to save them.

Instructions:
Change shape to make shapes of the same size follow you.
Keep your shapes away from psychopaths (Yellow and Red).
Take your shapes to the safe zone and release them. (Blue Building).
Get as much score as possible in the 2 minuets given.

16:9 or 16:10 resolution is recommend due to the title screen not scaling correctly, but it should still be functional.

Nice idea and theme, but unfortunately is lagging a lot on my PC. The lighting makes for great atmosphere though.

The idea was very good, unfortunately I had a couple of problems:

- The yellow/red shapes move just as fast as I do and follow me ridiculously closely, making it impossible to rescue any more shapes

- The yellow/red shapes can go into the blue "safe" zones and eat everyone I've saved

When I first ran the game, I found that it was very slow. I turned the graphics to fastest, and it still ran slow, but it was playable. While I was playing your game, I was somewhat confused. I never did find the blue building, and I had the issue where if I was going fast enough to escape the psychopaths, I was also going fast enough to escape my followers.

The concept is interesting but the execution was unfun. There was little in terms of gameplay, and there wasn't a clear sense of direction in where the game was going. For example, where were the psychopaths going to spawn? Was there a rule that could direct you towards more of a type of shape? Did different shapes behave differently? Playing the game felt directionless. Games like this should have a clear direction on where to improve.

Great idea for the theme. But the game lags on higher settings on my PC.

Interesting idea. Have to admit, initially I thought that the main character was a psychopath adopting different fa莽ades to lure victims in.
Still, cool take on the theme--good job. :)

Overall, a bit disparate; the music actually detracts from what would otherwise be a brooding mood. I muted it.

Otherwise, the name, concept, graphics, all play really nice together and make this a solid entry. :D

This a really cool little proof of concept. There's not a lot of interesting dynamic play (yet?), but I can "squint my eyes" (so to speak) and imagine something cool springing from this.

Great job, guys.

Hi, nice game ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #35.
Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description

Pros : I like the lighting and the way shape shifts.
Cons : The game lags a lot, the ennemies are way faster than allies and there no feed back as to when you unbefriend a shape ( ie : it's a cube and I'm a cube so we're friends but then i change to triangle and sometimes the cube leave, sometimes not)
