Trust your Enemy by Spunkmeyer

[raw]
made by Spunkmeyer for LD18 (COMPO)
edit: Added a bugfix after deadline: probability of trust tower was calculated wrong. Was fixed by changing a single character. The rest is unnaffected/unchanged!

This is my first Ludum Dare. The game is 'finished' but untuned and there is no tutorial (see readme). No optimizations, no testing on other PC's.

I spend too much time on the GUI part yesterday. I will polish this game later and put it on my website, because I like the idea of the game very much and want to polish it!

A very fast-paced game with a good concept. a bit of polshing, and you'll have a brilliant game on your hands :D

Hi Folks, I don't know if it is against the rules but here is an identical version with a major bug fixed:

http://games.spunkmeyer.de/downloads/Trust_Your_Enemy_fixed.zip

No graphics changed, no new features, no new gamerules, just a bug with probability fixed (Trust tower now works correctly).

If thats okay, use it. Otherwise ignore it, please!

After discussion in IRC, I uploaded a fixed version. The old version is still available:

I'm afraid I couldn't really figure out how to play (or perhaps I was particularly terrible at it). Placing towers worked fine, and I could see the speed/greed ones working, but my trust towers never seemed to impact the enemy. No matter what I did, my fighters never managed to make an impact on the enemy base - it always stayed at 100%, and I never even breached their shield.

*As I write this, I read the comments, and download the fixed version*. Ah, the trust turrents now work, and I actually won a game. It makes a little more sense, but I think the main problem is that there's no feedback (why do my turrets disappear, is it time or health?). Do my trust turrents convert my own units into enemies? Is it only when they're in the enemy's zone?

Overall, it was a great idea, but the implementation lets it down a little.

Yeah, as I already set, some things are unpolished. User Feedback is one of biggest points. Thanks for pointing that out. Trust Towers work only on you side of the playfield. Actually it should only be allowed to place towers at your side, but that did not went into the game...

The Shield-Status is not shown, too. Another feedback issue. :-)

Thanks for playing and commenting!

Obviously a lot went into this game. Competent graphics, and meaningful sound (I could tell when things were heating up). I didn't really get what was going on, though. Where do those bullets go? Where do the shields go? It says I purchased them, what effect did they have on the field?

(I guess this all goes under "user feedback", which you are aware of.)

I would love to play a more thoroughly-tested version of this game.

This was very difficult. Also I found the UI to be a bit confusing. What's the number that's showing the enemy's health? And what are the two numbers below my health? It's kinda confusing.

Instructions? There are a lot of counters, game objects, stuff going on that is not explained and not obvious.
I think this could be fun if I knew how to play.
