Atop Mt. Brawlalot by eli

[raw]
made by eli for LD18 (COMPO)
The horde is coming, and boy does it have its collective panties in a collective bunch! Your time on Mt. Brawlalot is coming to a close - or is it? You decide!

Use the grumbling masses against themselves! Grab one and spin it using *state-of-the-art* physics technology!

(***physics technology may not be state-of-the-art, ie. some bugs that I never could iron out entirely. I am probably using HingeJoints in ways they were never meant to be, and I don't mean that as self-flattery.)

Built with Unity, Photoshop, Audacity, FL-studio, and 3ds-max.

Textures based on photos taken Saturday morning, I'll have those up along with the source code soon.

UPDATE: Source finally uploaded successfully!! Source is a mix of photos, textures, sounds, project files ... and a Unity package. Go wild!

I am adding mirrors and the source as we speak. The source package is 23.8MB, so my poor computer will take a while. Already failed one upload I left overnight.

An OK game, but could do with some poilshing. The movement of the mouse needs improvement

I loved it. It was broken in such a good / funny way. My baby daughter instantly reacted to the sound too, all in all it was two days well spent my friend!

sfernald: added link to source (finally). I'd be happy to get some feedback, if you can! Thanks!

AClockWorkLemon: Thank you for trying my game! As mentioned, there are numerous problems with the physics. I couldn't get it working properly!!

superflat: Your comment makes me warm and glowy inside!! I didn't mean it to come out that way at all, but I'm so glad that it did. Thank you!

The sound makes this game. The constant mumbling of the random brawlers and the voice actor's apathetic performance of the protagonist are hilarious.

The concept is good too.

AClockWorkLemon already mentioned the controls, so I'll just say that having a way to perform a zelda-style 360 degree slash would have been a lot of fun, if only to see baddies go flying everywhere. :-)

Mouse movement seemed a bit awkward, but nice idea.
Shame sound doesn't work in wine.

JamesGecko: Thanks for the props! I hope to be better at control in the future.

someone: Yarrr I had no way to test Wine =( sorry about that. Not sure I can do much, as it is in Unity. Thanks for trying.

zigs: Thanks =)

A pretty cool idea. I thought it was kinda hard to control the swinging though, and I felt like there was little need to ever let go of an enemy. Just swing away. It would probably be easier to understand the swinging mechanic if the game was top-down.

The enemies kinda look like red blood cells. What's that about?

Fun game! I love how the enemies swarm right at you, and I love the sound effects!
good job!
Controls are indeed a bit iffy, but it's fun nonetheless...

Haha very funny entry! Longest I managed to last after a few attempts was 45 seconds. The sound effects had me cracking up as I played. I also liked the basic and simple concept for the game. Seems there are a few issues of trying to click on the "chompers" in the beginning and you only ever have to really click on one. I also couldn't find a way to always reliably swivel the enemy around. The enemies look like electron microscope blood cells or something.

Thanks for the feedback!!!

I'm not really sure what the chompers are, I just allotted myself 3 minutes to smash at a sphere mesh until it looked decidedly un-spherical. I started setting up bones so the dent worked like a mouth, chompering, but it was frustrating and threatened to take up too much time.

Also, it's perfectly legitimate to have just one chomper on a leash, and use him to bash others.

I have to second @JamesGecko on this one -- the sound really does make the game. Made me giggle.

No, honest.

I agree with pretty much everyone else here - the sound was brilliant!

I couldn't really get the dragging enemies mechanic to work, but maybe that's just me. ;) I did find a good way to stay alive is simply to run around the edge of the mountain in circles - the chompers will either stay far enough behind you to not be a problem, or they'll fall off the mountain!

Overall entertaining, but could use some polish

I don't get how this is supposed to be played... I tried to move the red thing with the mouse and LMB pressed, but nothing seemed to happen and I couldn't try for long anyway since there were one hundred other things jumping at me at the same time. So I just tried to click frantically and that seemed to make some enemies jump away... but I don't think that's the way it's supposed to be played.

Nice ingame music though. (Under Wine. I get the privilege to hear your game's sound under Wine. W00t.)

Kept me occupied for a while. It was annoying that the enemy I was swinging tended to hover in mid-air. That didn't make it much use for knocking away other enemies. Otherwise it was fun, though.
