Takeover by Almost

[raw]
made by Almost for LD18 (COMPO)
Arrow keys to move, ram a ship as the pod to control it, Z to eject and go back to pod. Whenever you see a new enemy, eject and capture it, pretty much.

Enemy waves are set to loop.
some cool things, but a lot less complete then I'd like.

If you die in a ship, you autoeject. If you die as a pod, you disappear and are unable to move. No Menu / Game Over /stars in the sky. A few bugs and stuff. Try to stay on the screen as I didn't get around to the edge of screen stopping you. I made a fancy laser weapon, but didn't get around to it actually hurting you so figured I'd leave it out.

100% code, bitmaps are for cheaters. Made with Flashdevelop.

I think there's an awesome game in there waiting to be brought out. If you fixed a few things like keeping the player onscreen, and played around with timings and perhaps the methods of taking over ships, it could be really interesting. I like the way the difficulty ramps up by introducing new ships and then facing off against more of them.

Very slick graphics! I also loved the controls - each ship had its own feel to it. Not much of a game (score? win condition? progress?), though. Good work.

This is a really awesome game, looks lovely too, although I do slightly agree with Eli as it feels like there is no sense of progress, but to be honest I don't think it really needs it, it's a really nice little game that I could play again and again, was also nice having more than one ship variety :)

Nice graphics. I like the glows, and it plays nice and smooth. All it needs is to be finished (eg death) but overall a great effort with good style. Keep up the good work! =)

I like the visual style very much. A high score system would greatly improve the replay value.

Very nice, the most fun I've had on here yet actually, throw in some more enemies, a score, and a death screen, and I would easily buy it as an iPod app lol, gave you 5 stars :)

Nice idea and a some pretty sweet graphics. :D
I'd love to play a more polished version of this with scoring and maybe a slightly faster pace.

Cool game. I wish it had a level progression or scoring or something. Right now there's no real goal. Other than that though, great job. I have to say though, that once you got the big ship, you'd survive most waves by just holding still and letting the homing missiles do the work. You should probably make sure that there's no place on the screen that's safe for very long periods of time. I stayed in the middle of the screen horizontally, and pretty much the only thing that would hit me was the other big motherships.

Good graphics. The capturing concept is fine too for this scale. I played for a while but didn't see the ship with beam weapon that can be seen in last screenshot.

Beam didn't actually make it to the released version; it looked cool but wasn't complete enough. The last screenshot is of said old version

Great foundation here for what could be an awesome game. I like the concept of having to take over the enemy ships to upgrade. I also like the forgiving nature of getting destroyed and it just reduces you back to your original ship. The over the top glow filters are a bit much for my own taste but at least it looks distinctive I guess.

Was a fun take over game.

Looks really great, and the takeover mechanic is surprisingly fun. Some polish (a win condition/reset for starts) would take this a long way.

On that note, it's a bit odd that I can fly off the screen...
