Crustacean Cannon by Hellfang

[raw]
made by Hellfang for LD18 (COMPO)
Move using the WASD keys, suck enemies into your cannon with the space bar and aim and fire with the mouse at other enemies. Once all enemies on screen are defeated (fire an enemy in your gun to defeat it) the level will progress.

You have 5 lives, which can be lost by the player falling off screen or by pressing the reset key. Once a life is lost, the level will return to it's original state. Once all lives are lost, the game is over and the player must start again.

There are 8 levels in total, complete them all for a bonus ending cutscene!

I really enjoyed it. The controls took a few tries to understand, but it's actually really fun. I love the whole concept of a bunny vacuuming up crabs. Well done.

vacuum cannons for the win, it's a good, simple concept, although from what i played, i think that's about as far as it goes, although what the hell crabs don't walk on the roof... yeah i think that's innovation

you interpreted the theme the same way i did: pick up and throw - good job

the fact that you can't restart from the same level takes a dip in your fun rating, as it would get incredibly tedious playing the same level over and over again

graphics are quite ms-paint-like but quite good, although that title screen gets you that fifth star

audio is there and it works, that's all that needs to be said

didn't really spot humour in this, so N/A

overall i'd recommend this to anyone provided that it were on a different platform

although there were essentially no alphas / betas you did more screenshots than me, i'd have to say this is about par - i like how you explain how the game works

Overall, I enjoyed it. Sometimes the cannon was buggy that it would fire directly upwards when aiming elsewhere. Or if I accidentally clicked outside and it lost focus, clicking back in the window will waste a crab. =< But that didn't take away too much from the game; great work!

I quite enjoyed this one, the concept interested me, but to point out your flaws is more helpful (if more nasty sounding) than pointing out what you did well.

Firstly, restarting the game back at level one actually prevented me from finishing it until after quite a few monotonous tries, an idea would be some sort of arcade style thing when you die in which there's a [coin x 3] thing and a continue button that plops you where you left off.

Another irk was the music, this game seemed like it was almost touching on something humorous, but without any additional push beyond the concept it wasn't exactly atmospheric in a way that would have been funny, I think that background music could have partly or fully achieved this.

Besides these niggles however it's a very nice little game, well presented and perfectly conforming to the theme, well done.

cute idea, nicely pulled off. one annoying thing is the cannon cannot point backwards. i lost quite a few lives by not having the charachter facing the right direction

Great work! I like the sounds, I really like the smooth rotation of your cannon, but I wish there were more enemies on screen since if you miss you have to reset which is a downer. I liked it! Keep up the fantastic work!

Really loving the graphics. It felt like the mechanic would have worked better in a less rigid puzzle-esque enviroment. Controls are a nightmare on a trackpad, but I can't really hold that against you.

This was quite cool. The graphics were really polished and the animations were very detailed. The difficulty was a little on the easy side (either that, or I was just lucky. The later levels certainly looked difficult). The controls were a bit unintuitive but I got used to them quickly enough. The ending sequence was... unexpected :).

As people have said, restarting if you fail is not so in-keeping with what is a puzzle, rather than arcade, game.

Cool puzzle game concept. The controls felt a bit weird, and it especially bugged me that you can't shoot behind yourself. I don't see a gameplay reason for that. Another thing that bugged me was that the game threw me back to level 1 when I failed enough times.

The graphics are very nice. :-)
