In some levels where you have to hit the small ball, it's very hard to aim (with the small ball) and it gets a bit random. I like the randomness, but you get that when there's many balls anyways, so I think the small ball should have been bigger :) Also I don't clearly see the theme.
The idea of being able to move the target hole is brilliant!
I really like the simplistic graphics and atmosphere of the game.
Fantastic job... I think an iPhone port is called for!
I like the sound, by the way. I'm really impressed that you managed to get in an editor and online support- wow.
@stqn: It should only require Python & Pygame -- you almost certainly have Python already installed, and Pygame is easy to get (`sudo apt-get install python-pygame` on Ubuntu; something similar on other distros). Then run `python init.py` or `python DoubleBounce.py`
@Danik: Alas, no. I had some rough 'preview' functionality in there before, but it got culled in the great pre-submission bughunt. You can fake it by drawing a course, saving it, leaving the editor, playing it, then loading it back into the editor for more tweaking.
@Sparky: I'd love to do a proper story mode, but I was just too uninspired by the end of the compo to make any nicely designed, thought-provoking levels. If you'll shoot me an email (doches@gmail.com) I'd be glad to chat about the editor & level sharing system
I don't see at all how this fits to the theme. The game is fun though, so you may want to keep working on it.
By the way, I don't think I've ever heard of Putt-Putt, but perhaps you were thinking of Mini Golf?
Most of the levels seem way to easy to win so far. Way to implement online level sharing and rating though--that is pretty crazy.
@Pekuja: putt-putt is just another name for mini-golf.
To me the goal seemed fairly vague. With more than one scoring ball on the screen I was expecting to score different points for different balls, or score bonus points for scoring with two balls at once, etc. Scoring only by the number of shots taken seems uninventive, and doesn't leave much room for incremental improvement between a good score and a great one. Most courses could be beaten in one shot just be firing the cue ball as hard as possible in a random direction.
I found this quite innovative, because although the idea of blending Pool with Mini Golf seems fairly obvious, I'm not sure I've ever seen anything similar. It reminds me a bit of Lightning Break or Lightning Pool, but those games are still located on tables with four sides and six pockets.
I agree with some of the other commenters that this *just barely* fits the theme. But I still love it.
