Minescape by entheh

[raw]
made by entheh for LD19 (COMPO)
Can you escape the mine?
100 points per crystal, x2 if you escape!

Every mine is different. Will you strike lucky and be able to reach lots of crystals? When you do, will you have the skill to make the most of it?

Complete with high score tables, music and sound effects, and single-computer multiplayer modes: take the crystals for yourself, but don't nerf your friends or you lose too!

Source and Windows binary included. Should compile on a number of other platforms. Dedicated to the Chilean miners, all of whom were rescued :)

Dude, this is _awesome_. First, thanks -- I've been looking hard for linux games, and this is the first with a readme, which I have come to value much more than ever before.

Second, your game is *fun*. I really like it. Good balance of greed/survival, awesome puzzle concept.

For anyone else out there running debian, you need the following packages for this to compile:

liballegro-dev 4.2
libdumb1-dev 0.9.3
libaldmb1-dev

Very good game. With a bit of polish this could become a great game! Well done! :D

My wife and I enjoyed this, although we often found ourselves in start positions where we were basically screwed. You can also get a higher score than the other person by committing suicide. Good game - enjoyed it!

Pretty good game, but reminds me of other "Dig for diamonds, avoid things falling on your head" games.

Graphics were a bit odd. The guy's a little too round.

I downloaded the "Linux" version, but it opened in WINE. Did you link to the wrong file?

The sound is a little bit wonky. The music is a little choppy and there don't seem to be sound effects.

Thank you all - glad to see people are enjoying it :)

MrDude, I apologise for the confusion. For simplicity I just made a single zip. You should be able to compile it under Linux. There are more details in the readme. If you get a chance to try it, let me know if you have more luck with the music and sound effects :)

The game plays smoothly, I liked the plethora of options and all the platforms available, and the music which was quite weird. It was pretty fun, even when I died, because it was quick to restart, and the music kept running which made it feel continuous. On the other hand, gameplay was mostly about luck in level generation. One time I couldn't even move. It would have been nice if the game generated a level that was guaranteed to be solvable. Can't give lotsa points for innovation since this is basically the same game as Boulder Dash, but I do miss that game...

My virus scanner won't let me download the file, "PAK_Generic.001". Probably false positive.

A nice little game. Smooth game feel and camera movement.
Not very original, but it was a bit nostalgic as I remember playing a similar game at school when I was a kid.

No community stuff? No timelapse or anything? Aw man.

Nice little game. Reminds me of boulder dash. But there is not too much resemblence with the theme.

Nice music, though in wine it runs quirky. But that's not your fault.

Good work overall.

First, the music is a good fit!
Basically Boulder Dash. But why are the diamonds not falling? ;)
Nice idea, however some stages are just impossible due to bad luck. It works out solvable mostly though.

Reminded me of a good old puzzle game I used to play when I was 8-ish called Herman's falling rocks. I liked the gameplay and the music and sound was fitting though repetitive. Cross platform compatibility is great! My least favorite feature was the map generation. Sometimes there was absolutely no way to escape or sometimes even move without dying. It could be improved vastly by randomly generating empty spaces as well as the other blocks, and could definitely benefit from a more intelligent algorithm. Otherwise, great work!
