Though I would have like some sort of lose state, maybe some enemies running around or a stamina bar. However it was rather dull and repetitive after a while. I found I was only playing for the sake of seeing if anything would happen when I found the last 2-3 gems, as opposed to digging because it was fun. It was a while before I found the last.  I got upset looking around and finding duplicates of things I had without being able to distinguish what was something I hadn't found yet.  I guess you have considered a system by which the player may infer some positions of some items? The music is cute, but it gets repetitive after a while. The actual game felt to be lacking in that it didn't require skill, just luck and perseverance.
