Drum Hammer Dig by trialbyfun

[raw]
made by trialbyfun for LD20 (COMPO)
You know the story. you get sent down into a cave to collect precious minerals from the walls. The trouble is the place is dangerous and crawling with monsters.

"Not to worry", says the wise old man outside, "Take This"

He hands you a mystical Drum Hammer to protect you from danger.

"It's said that by hitting the hammer on a wall, the resonance that it creates will alert you to the presence of nearby monsters" he further explains.

"Cool" you think, before venturing into the cave.

The rules.

-Break as many walls as you can before the time runs out. Walls mean points.
-Find the exit, and only leave when you have collected as much as you can.
-If you break the wall of a monster its Gameover.
-enjoy.

Fun :) Liked the sounds. Is there more than one level?

Cool take on Minesweeper, I dig it. (HA!)
Have you played Zombie Minesweeper? It's another cool take on minesweeper.

Both the graphics and sound were simple, but great.

Thanks for the comments guys!
taybenlor - hi i only had time to put together one level, so I switched up the scoring to encourage repeat play by being "score as much as you can before the time runs out". If i was to carry this on in the future i would definitely put in a lot more levels, and away points for catching the monsters.
Zemmi - I'd never seen that but it looks fantastic! wish I had made that instead now lol

Clever idea, delightfully cute. I'd have played a lot more of this if it had more levels!

Really nice twist on minesweeper. Wonderful sound too. I can see many people losing hours to this, especially if the levels were procedurally generated.

This is pretty fun but needs procedural levels to really take flight. Oh, and the theme isn't represented in the game, it seems.

I LOVE THE SFX!

This would have been perfect for a digging theme.

I loved the riff on Minesweeper. Very well done.

Also I know how difficult 2D is in Unity, but you pulled it off rather well. Good work!

....wait a second... this is minesweeper! (and a good one indeed. There should be more usage of that idea)

it's cute and funny ("you totally died"), and I like the unique and bold color-scheme :-)

Great idea to mix Minesweeper with digging/exploration. Haven't seen that before, and it turns out that it works well! It does seem that digging any "1" tile leads to death though, which is unfortunate. I would have liked to see some more use of the actual Minesweeper mechanic - i.e. make it so that digging a tile adjacent to a monster doesn't kill you, but digging the monster does. And have more monsters. You'd then actually have to use Minesweeper logic to get the best score, which would have been neat. I'm not so sure that the ability to kill monsters would have been the right direction, as it would dilute the Minesweeper feel and turn it into more of an action game, which is less unique and IMO less interesting.

Excellent use of audio, graphics were quite decent. Use of theme was not so strong, unfortunately. Also it would have been great if you'd had time for procedural levels - I was kind of expecting them and was a little surprised when there was only one, pre-made level. Still, neat entry, good job!

Really cute, and I really adore the sound effects. I'm not a massive minesweeper fan, but it's much more fun having an avatar like this. Great colours too.

Neat, though with 0 = "dig here" and 1 = "don't dig here" it's pretty straightforward. And you can just learn the locations of the monsters to get a higher score, right? The level ought to be randomised.

very cool audio, I love it. Wish I had found this during the actual compo, rather than several months later.
