The Dimension by HighQuality

[raw]
made by HighQuality for LD20 (COMPO)
This is my first Ludum Dare entry.
It's a short adventure platformer with a quite nice story.
Use the arrow keys and Z to navigate the menu.

Enjoy!

There was supposed to be online highscores in this and we actually had it working, but some last moment troubles made me forced to remove it from the game.
The clock is currently 2 AM here, and I got school tomorrow morning.
So there was not enough time to make it as perfect as I would wish.

Liked the basic platforming elements, but it was almost too simple. First game I've played with music. In Ludum Dare 20, not like, ever - that would be silly. Liked how the theme played into the story, and how the story was used as a motivator. Would have liked a more epic finale.

I like how the use of the theme had a subtle way of materializing. Nice :)
The falling rock/god laugh sound, though, had me getting up to see if my drain was clogged every time X-) Sounded just like my kitchen sink backfiring.

Thanks :)
Sound, Music and Sprites are definitively my worst part in developing games.
Well, everything the user sees :P
I mainly work in teams, so I don't have to do any graphics myself ^^

And that's pretty much the only SFX effect I had in the game (Except in the retro world, these were generated)

Anyways, thank you for the comments :)
I appreciate them.

Entering my name as 'Milo, The Destroyer' bolstered my ego a lot. By far the most polished game I've seen yet. Great job!

Nice game with some fun platforming and a cool story.
I think you should try and move away from gamemaker though, not that there is anything wrong with it per say, but you seam to know how to make games and I think your games would benefit a lot from it, since games made in gamemaker do have a certain cheap gamemaker shell feel to them.

Great effort.

The "other dimension" level lagged a bit, but it was still passable.

The extermination level was really punishing, those pendulums were murder.

Congrats on submitting!

@jsmars
Yes, I'm actually currently learning C++ and java.

@Dark Acre Jack
Yeah, I expected someone to lag at that level because it's autotiled.

Thanks for the comments :)

I liked the graphics. I found the last level a bit frustrating, especially because I didn't get to keep the hearts I collected in the previous level.

I liked how you changed the game between dimensions and the dialogs between the player and the other characters. However I didn't understand the importance of the torch but also I didn't finish the game so I can't judge that.

Good luck with the compo.

@Arielsan
Then you missed pretty much the whole story ;)

Neat little game with a story to top it off.
Well done :)
