Shadow Morph by DavidErosa

[raw]
made by DavidErosa for LD35 (COMPO)
*** You CAN play without a VR HMD ***

This is my 13th LD in a row and my 4th LD anniversary and I've been really close of not taking part of it!

Anyway, here's a little game I did both for LD and the VRJam: A game where you have to guess a geometric figure just with its shadow.

*** HOW TO PLAY ***
Choose the correct object by watching the shadows on the wall and ceiling.

*** CONTROLS ***

-= COMMON =-
ESC to go back or exit the game.

-= Desktop Mode (No HMD) =-
Look around: Mouse
Select: Mouse click / space bar

-= VR HDM =-
Look around : just... look around :)
Select: Gamepad button A / mouse click / space bar

*** Tested HMD ***
Tested with a DK2 and Oculus Runtime 1.3. Should work with Oculus Rift and maybe HTC Vive too? (leave me a comment if it works!)

** NOTE **
The embedded version may misbehave with the mouse cursor. My testing shows that Firefox behaves better than chrome. Anyway the "standalone" WebGL version should work correctly.

I had a lot of fun playing with with a release-oculus while standing! It really was making me wish there was more content!

Also, the sad-trombone was simply amazing. :)

Cool idea. I don't have a VR device to try this, but the concept works as good with flat screen and mouse.

I was completely winning and then identical shadows started to appear.
Not fair!
Then, toying around I realized sometimes I could see a second shadow in the ceiling, coming from the same light source and giving away completely the shape of the object.

It didn't seem to work on Vive, I've only had it for a few days though so I'm not really sure if there is something more I could do to get it working though. I ended up playing it in "Desktop Mode".

The concept was neat, It took a while to figure out exactly how it all worked though. Top and side shadows being from the same object, and the fact that the object was moving differently from how it did on the pedestal threw me at first.

Good work on this! I liked the feedback on your answer: particles, sound effects, and light colors made it pretty clear if you got the answer right or wrong.

Interesting concept with which I played a long time. However, it seems to me that you could create more shapes. A good project and well done ++

Somewhat fun concept, kinda remind me of Z-Rox. However, sometimes I felt there was more than one shadow fitting the shape. Also, I'd like the preparation phase to allow viewing the shape also from top and bottom, because sometimes it's not clear whether there's some hole or not.

Overall, solid entry, fun to play around for a bit. Gotta add the point to audio for the losing sound effect.

Fun game, I could never tell if the rotation I was seeing always represented rotation on a specific axis. I wish I could see rotation on x,y,z. Maybe if I shift may gaze from the wall to the floor, it shows an additional rotation under me.
