****I FIXED SOME IMPORTANT BUG THAT PREVENTS THE GAME FROM STARTING****
As a result of this I had to remove all audio, so the files are significantly smaller than before. If you still get problems please say so in comments. Since I can only have 5 links I removed the HiDef download link of the old build.
You can still download it here: Windows - HiDef http://www.mediafire.com/?hybb4pjxib9wpxs

Dare To Escape is a bullet-hell platformer.

You need XNA/.NET 4 to play the game.
I am sorry for this! Never had to distribute an XNA game before. Thought they would work out of the box.

It's my first time participating in LD and the first "serious" game I did by myself.

Sadly there is not much content due to huge time problems.
In exchange the difficulty curve is insane in the two levels it has.

If the HiDef-version doesnt work for you, try out the Reach-version! If the Reach version doesn't work pls specify the error you get.

I didn't include the uncompressed audio files in the source as they take 300mb of space. If you want to compile it you have to remove all occurences where the AudioManager or AudioHelper is used.

The music was generated using http://tones.wolfram.com/generate/ . I hope this is allowed seeing how programs such as bfxr are allowed to generate sound effects.

There is currently a bug in that bosses sometimes dont spawn if you play the game in one session. If you find a blue orb without there being a boss you should restart the game. You can use the resume feature afterwards to start at your last checkpoint and the boss should be there this time (if you didnt save after picking up the blue orb).

I might expand upon this game in the future. If you're interested to see more content and better mechanics etc. feel free to visit my blog: http://projectblackdragon.blogspot.com/

Sorry chap, for some reason the Reach version doesn't seem to work.

Good stuff, quick addicting in my opinion! I'm sure the second level would have been easier had there been more time for levels! :D

Very nice idea, a bullet-hell platformer. I'd have loved some more content.

You should probably say that you're using XNA 4, because it would crash for people without it (and people without visual studio debugger won't know why)

just put up new downloads. Should be allowed as per twitter-feed as this was a bug that prevented the game from starting. As a result all sound got removed. Included original source on submission and new source

"Windows - Reach (bugged)" works for me, then again I have all the XNA stuff. Nice concept platformer. Turrets are a bit overpowered, and takes trial-error rather than skill to pass most. Bullets that follow you are too hard to avoid in narrow places. Then again those two might be the point of the game. Nice touch on the tutorial screen.

Brilliant! Very hard though... Maybe make the collision box smaller? Thanks for making this.

Engaging, but difficult-to-impossible

Fun and hard, just the way I like them. Some turrets could have been placed better but I realize time didn't allow for fine tuning and balancing.

Very hard. I could not pass the two boss turrets at the end. Since their pattern is random, I felt it was more luck than skill for this (most of the time, it felt impossible to get through ; there is not enough space to run or jump). I tried for a couple of minutes then I quit. This kind of extreme platforming is very tough to balance. Just looking at VVVVVV and SMB, I do not want to start thinking about how hard that must have been.

Apart from that, your entry is solid, worked on my windows7-64 (I had XNA and .NET installed) but a bit on the hard side.

Solid plattformer. Extremly difficult in the second level. Lacks sound and the graphics should be improved.
