Road to Escape by Ataverti

[raw]
made by Ataverti for LD21 (JAM)
I worked solo so I did not had time to make models this time so I bended the rules by using models and animations from other projects. Also I drank too much energy drink cos it was free at our event LUDUMDARE KAJAANI (http://ldkajaani.blogspot.com/) and could not made all the great gameplay elements I was planning due the lack of sleep.

Also to save time I decided to remove (almost) all colors from the scene and got this nice Twin Peaks / Sin City feel for the game. The low visibility makes it more challenching to play and adds more mood even thought it might not be everybodies "cup of tea"

It's a fun little game! Too bad I was so busy with my own jam entry that I couldn't help you out with the sounds more than the laugh and the music loop :)

It's beautiful, but it must be really huge because it's only showing one or two frames per sec on my fairly powerful newish computer

I just held down spacebar and couldn't be touched. Even tried intentionally hitting cars and owls. My only problem is the small things that trip you up that you can't see until it's too late. Great art.

i like the evil laugh! agreed with dramble, too easy if you just run down the middle.

A very interesting take on trying to escape. I also agree with the above that the only things that tripped me were the small objects so low to the ground that they were almost impossible to see until hitting them.

Although I never got more than ten seconds in on a run despite thirty or so tries. Has potential but nut very fun.

It was pretty typical Jam for me. I did the game during the first night and even thought I noticed the errors like the collision box doesn´t keep with the character when jumping I was too tired to fix them. But have you noticed that if you want to get good score you have to collect those roses. Alternative is putting something heavy on space bar and leaving it for 20 hours. SamEcircle: I didn´t had time to optimize the game so at the moment it uses all kinds of effects that make it laggy on some computers. wally2069: Have you tried it with full-screen (press F) so u might be able to see obstacles better.

First time I played I got hit by a car from behind and thaugth this game was a car surfing simulator, eventualy I realized I was just dead. It is a pretty good game, but I feel a little let down that I can't car surf in it.

The graphics are awesome, but I can't really dodge the cars very effectively. Maybe it would be better with a little warning just before one shows up?

Like the grey/red art-style.

KevinWorkman: Some people are saying that it is too easy once you get used to the rythm. You can see the carlights before the car comes. Thought now I am adding sound effects to the game. Hamster_mk_4: Hahah, car surfing game would be awesome. First I made the whole scene stop after being hit but it is much funnier this way thought not as logical.

Matthias_zarzecki: Thanks grey with some spot colors has been a thing for me. I made this mod for Max Payne back at day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e342Ijnq9k4

Fun little game... But I think the way the skeleton falls isn't the best... I would rather see his bones over all place =)

Nice atmosphere but I just find the visibility too low to play this game. Also it has a really low framerate on my terrible machine, but that's not your fault.

I upgraded the game little bit, things I still need to do:
-add more sounds.
-make highscore that saves player scores.
-make it possible to optimize the game.

Although it's just a simple dodge and jump, thanks to the gfx and audio and especially great atmosphere this is one of the better entries out of 300 hundreds I've tried. Since it's jam entry, I don't think you've bent the rules that much.
Nice evil laugh, eimink :)

Nice game, although nothing new. The contrast could be better, I'm dying too soon because I can't see stuff. ;-)
I like the general setting though. There are too few games where you play a skeleton on a street. This is something you should explore more!

Well, some say it is too easy, some say it is too difficult to dodge objects. Maybe playing in full screen helps? If I put colors there it takes the mood away but u could see obstacles better.
