*SPOILERS(?) AHEAD. (If an arcade game can be spoiled)*
This will get 5* innovation from me. There is more than one innovative mechanic going on and they interplay with each other.
It needs sound and music.
It needs to be SO much easier! I actually got into it; I think I understand pretty much every thing that's going on. It's still too hard. I had to resort to the strategy of piling up all the blocks I could reach next to him before I fed him one. But that's not fun! It's tedious! I tried it a lot both ways but it just didn't seem feasible without doing this.
He gets hungry way too fast. You might want to check that the logic is framerate independent and not decrementing his fullness each frame.
Okay, so even with this tedious, time-consuming strategy, it took some practice. However, I managed to get a nice pile of food in front of him and was pretty close to the top when I thought, "This is it! I can run for it now and he'll still be alive!" So I make it! He only has one exclamation bar! And... I STILL GET THE SAD ENDING??? WTF!? FFFFFUUUUUU!!!!!! What? He needed to not have any exclamation points? Well, I could've done that if I knew I needed to! Since, I've tried a few more times but haven't progressed as well because I don't want to stack food in b&w mode and it just pisses me off!
My biggest fear was that there just was no win condition. That this was some kind of art piece about co-dependency or something like that.
It's funny, because the media loves to link violent videogames with violence. Little do they know which games would actually drive me to it... :p
It also really hurts the game that the door isn't within view of the hungry block. You never know if he has more to eat or if he's waiting on you and you waste precious time in either case.
In conclusion, this game is fairly awesome, but I hate you for it :).
...and... I hate myself >:(. After a break, I couldn't resist the urge to come back and finish the game as perfectly as I could imagine; reaching the star with the block guy having no !'s. 3 guesses what I saw.
