Boingo's Escape by G4JC

[raw]
made by G4JC for LD21 (JAM)
Boingo the sheep has lost his way and been captured by evil wolves. Help him to escape their grasp and find his way back home! Featuring 5 levels, lush graphics, 1ups, intro, exit, and more. :D (And I made it in under <16hr w00t)

Moved to Jam due to breaking the "original music/sfx" rule. Even though they were free and legal they aren't original. :(

Ah well, been fun. :D

Very impressive graphics. The controls are a bit buggy; it seems that whenever you land on something that isn't ground, you stop moving horizontally. However, using music that was not created by you during the competition - even though it's public domain - is a violation of the rules. You might be able to remove it to avoid being disqualified, but modifying your game after the submission deadline gets you disqualified too, so I would consult someone who knows the rules better than I to find out what to do.

The graphics were nice at the beginning, but the gradients felt a bit overused towards the end. Gameplay was fun, but whenever you landed on something you would stop moving right, which was annoying.
Also, I thought your game fit the theme very well.

Yep this should be in the jam.

Couldn't get past the start menu and f1 only said arrow keys and space bar so no idea what I was supposed to do.

The above horizontal bug was very frustrating. Nice environments. Also kind of annoying that you have to jump so high for such a small obstacle, semi jumps would have been nice.

The intro music was definitely way cooler than the music that played during the actual game. It's cool that you made all the different level graphics, but I doubt many people will get a chance to see it all. It may have been a little too leet to fit, but that made it pretty hilarious to me :).

Stopping entirely if you touch a rock from the side made it very hard to get anywhere with this game, especially when coupled with the very high and (as far as I could tell) non-variable jump height. It also felt a little slow, which may be accurate for a sheep, but made things seem all the more frustrating when you got stuck on a rock and died after floatily landing on it from a high jump.

Wow, this had a lot of work in it. The escape system was very well-balanced, too. Impressive.

having to push the right key each time you bump into a rock is both boring and not difficult enough ( you just have to push up-right, and re-push each time you bump ). Maybe you should have decrease sheep speed for a few time on collision. Nice intro
