This is Tools. A text-based prison escape game. You acquire items and you use them to craft tools which will help you in your escape. Of course, it is not that simple, because there are also people who will stand in your way.

Don't be afraid to experiment and find out all the crafting recipes. There is a total of 12 recipes and 17 items. (Some of which absurd!)

If everything is okay, all the bugs are eliminated. I thank you all for the support but I would like to specially thank Mjiig, Marach and Fififox for helping me out with the most annoying bug of my game.

I'd also like to thank the people behind Ludum Dare for making this all possible!

This is pretty cool! I like the fact that you get many chances instead of loosing when you make a mistake.

In theory, you get 5 chances. But it almost never happens that you keep failing.

This is a beautiful game, maybe a little longer (50 days..) but I really like it.
You need to put some music in it, some graphic (I'm thinking like a rougelike game with a tileset) and will be a gret game.

p.s: add more prisoner with stabbing desire :D

Thanks. I'm thinking of adding more RPG-elements to the game and making it non-text based.

What a clever game ! My favorite so far ! The feeling of prisoner routine is here and you are right in the theme. Good work !

On the first playthrough I got caught a lot and never crafted anything, found any teammates or anything. The second time I made a number of things, made trades, got a helicopter, and it was much more interesting!

Congratulation for trying (and quite suceeding) something different. After I've hacked your sources and removed the incredibly annoying pause between lines I played for a while, then I took a bit better look on sources what is and is not possible.
What is hurting your game is the total randomness which can make or break experience. For example trading would be much more useful if convicts offered you something for something you already have. It would be nice to have some more interaction possibilites like choosing whether you want to go to gym, or look for convict to recruit / trade, or hunt for items.
Otherwise, good job.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've been mostly busy with porting the game to Flash. Basically making it non-text based. I'll take your advice Shigor, the flash version will have the optional pauses. I'll also like in some way to add more interaction. I'm kind of wondering how I'm going to implement the 'new' trading but I'm not sure if it will work out.

haha oldschool ftw! Given the medium that was well done, although I would have preferred a less 'on rails' experience. Something more along the lines of a mud in terms of being able to walk around, explore, etc. Beyond that nice job!

Cool game, I like the general idea very much.
I concur, the trading is a little bit tiresome as they always want things from me I don't have. Also, I traded a battery - I had two of them - with a toothbrush, and suddenly I had two toothbrushes and no battery. This shouldn't happen ...
I didn't craft anything, unfortunately, as all my attempts failed. Are the recipes that silly, or am I that stupid? :-)
Altogether I'm eager to see the Flash version with graphics!
