This is my 2nd ever attempt at an LD entry, and this time I am quite very finished! HOORAY! Please enjoy!

Tall Butt is an implementation of the ancient viking game Tablut! Hooray vikings!

See Rules.rtf for instructions for playing!

If you have a small screen/resolution, hit F11 to shrink the game!

Source requires Python and Pygame.

Oh, and another note: The AI is pretty weak... what can you expect from something developed in such a short time? It's PARTICULARLY weak at attacking. Switch yourself to be player to and AI to player 1 for a slightly more challenging game!

I really liked this, I've never played Tablut before, so I'm giving 4/5 innovation just for reviving a "dead" game. I had to keep the rules text open while I played(something in-game would have been nice), made tons of bad mistakes, but the AI let me win anyway. Pretty much the only additional thing I'd want is better presentation.

Interesting gameplay. Lol @ "See Rules.rtf for instructions for playing!" RTF! That is so retro.

RTFM really helps ;).
Interesting game and the implementation is really good. I would give a rather good innovation score, cause the basic game is not a well known game. And also vikings.

I know you didn't make these rules up, but it feels really unbalanced in favor of the Defender. I guess I'm just not familiar with the strategy, but I don't see how to box that King in effectively.

Nice! You say the AI was weak, but It was better than me :)

F11 to shrink the screen was buggy. it shrank, but then the next mouse click would cause a crash.

James: The shrink was a last minute addition because I remembered some people still use 1024x768 and smaller resolutions >.< My girlfriend has run it on her machine without any trouble, so I assumed it was working fine for everyone else, but I'll take a look and see what I can fix; thanks for letting me know.

Cosmologicon: Yes, the game is heavily biased toward Defenders. There are some theories that perhaps the game was originally a betting game where the two players would make bets over how long it would take for the king to escape, not if he would. That being said, I find the offense has a precarious advantage if they keep the board blocked up by not killing (many) defenders. This limits the King's options, at least.
