Go, Fish! by zamza

You are a fish that can change colors and phase through things. People want to catch you. Don't let them.

This is a pretty simple arcade-style game. I didn't have the time to provide sound effects, and there's relatively little animation. Regardless, it is pretty fun and serves as an effective proof of concept for a potential polished version down the line.

This was my first game jam, so I wanted to keep things simple. My goal was just to complete a game, and I'm pleased I was able to do just that. Next time I will try to stretch myself a bit more.

Good game, but lacks sound. I had fun playing it, but I was having issues with the phasing. Keep up the good work =)

It was kinda weird having the top of the water being on the left of the screen.

Nice little game. Weird how you can run into 2 different parallaxing nets, but I guess that's how games work. Nice simple graphics and gameplay. Maybe you could have some sort of indicator onscreen (C=Blue etc)

I could tell I was having fun the moment I realised that I was restarting without paying attention to my score. Nice job; would be really good with sound.

Quite good job... For it's class of simple avoiding games it lacks only some sounds and music (and the color phasing adds that little extra needed spice to make the game stand out a little.)

Interesting concept. Took me a while to get a hang of it. I would really have liked to see the difficulty ramp up (I kept dying in 2 seconds when I was getting used to the controls.) It doesn't seem to get more difficult as it goes on. I think it could be improved with Guitar Hero like difficulty -- start with one color, then add another color every 10 seconds. Having 5 colors after a while would be intense, while still being easy enough right away to get the hang of it.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I agree it would be better with sound, but I ran out of time and I'm not the best with sound design anyways. I'm gonna work on my art and sound and hope to be more competitive next LD.

BTW the game does get more difficult every 1000 points up to 10k points, but it doesn't get really hard until 9k.

The colour phasing mechanic enhanced an already solid concept of a game without adding any frustrating layer of complexity! Easy to pick on, and fun to play! Kudos for this entry!

Pity there was no audio. Pretty solid little core idea and game. Looked like a nice old arcade machine with Galaxian styled colors. :-)

My game was also about fish. :) I found it easy most of the time to sit at the right edge of the screen and pass the nets, but eventually there were a pile of nets on top of one another that might have been impossible. So I think that some constraints on the randomness might be necessary for fairness.

Good job for a first go! It's pretty complete!
