espace by eimink

made by eimink for LD21 (JAM)
Escape from prison planet Kajak in this simple space shooter. Espace is made using Qt framework in C++ and so far I've ported it to Windows and OSX. Linux port might be coming, but not within the Jam limits.

There's some reports of background music not working on Windows, but it works on my machine so I'm unable to locate the bug, but it seems like there's some kind of issue between Phonon and Directshow filters.
The OSX version is not fully tested as a release package, so please let us know if there's any problems with that.

Have fun.. and don't forget your towel!

I wish I could fire that weapon farther!

Ran on Linux with wine (but I would prefer a native binary =) ) and had fun! Liked the "Shift" mechanic you made. Allowed me to play suicidally :P Also, I wish the ship could move a bit faster (it is hard do avoid the "homing" ships). Good work!

It is a shame that the background music doesn't work for me. I also felt that the explosion thing was a bit annoying for my taste. The rest of the graphics were OK and the game was definitively playable and good.

It needs some polish in terms of controls (need to be tighter) and some balancing in terms of difficulty but beyond that not bad!

Everything worked fine (Win7 64bit), but the game does need some polish. I mean, why WSAD controls when not using mouse in any way? I'd much prefer arrows.
The game feels a little repetitive, and as it's not possible to avoid the unending stream of what I assume to be bullets, coming from the offscreen, to the right, one can only constantly spam space and shift to survive. I didn't notice any penalty for using shift too often (HPs are refilled as long as there's even a small amount of materials), and laser overheating can easily be avoided by constantly spamming space. The graphics are fine, and the gameplay is okay, but this could use a little more creative thinking.
Theme-wise, although I like that the title is an anagram to "escape" (actually very clever!), this does seem like a yet another space shooter.

Other than that, I think the game is fine, especially because it's quite decent for a first LD Jam and feels quite complete.
