TREASURES by pythong
Hey everyone, it's pythong!
I really have to say, I needed this. Haven't been programming this effectively in a looooooong time, slept about 6 hours in this compo, and now I feel alive again! And still 4hours+ to go! THIS IS WHY I LOVE PROGRAMMING
What I used:
* Flash
* flixel: easy to make fast platformers, and easy to understand too
* GraphicsGale: Used it for the first time, and it's a lot better than what I did before: Photoshop and making my SpriteSheets on my own
* cfxr and wolframtones for sound
Was kinda hard though, because I couldn't debug for reasons unknown :P. My code didn't connect to the debugger somehow (so not even a trace()). Oh well...
To the game: Didn't had a good idea from the start, so it became a platformer, which explained why I used flixel.

You are an archeologist! Finding secrets and treasures is your job, your task, your fulfilling! One day, You find an ancient tomb mask. But can you just take it? It's being protected! Oh no! Escape the grasp of its protectors or you will never see the light again! And your soul will be trapped forever......
KEYS:
LEFT, RIGHT
SPACE to jump
X for interaction (just lift and throw actually)
Also, you won't reach the next level if you don't have the gold with you. So you can't escape. In which case you'll die. Horribly. Slowly. Or fast when you hear that sound ;)
Have fun everyone!

Innovation... well, you have a somewhat clever boss fight, which automatically gets you an extra star from the base 2 stars of doing a platformer. It would be nice if you could use the treasure to kill enemies but oh well.
Fun... it helps that this game is short. The (somewhat thin but likable) plot keeps this game intact.
Theme... par for the course.
Graphics... nice job. Stuff's animated, and I'm not trying to rip my eyes out.
Audio... I must say, it definitely works, and the music's actually alright. The noise in level 2 could gradually get louder (it tends to drown stuff out), but other than that, just about everything makes noise. It could be good having the ghosts booing / bats flapping, but those sounds are a bit risky (they could sound quite annoying).
Humour... not much but there's a humourous ring in the plot. It's not bad, too.
Overall, there are a few rough edges (protip: try not to make the player start at level 1), but there's a game, it's got a nice thin plot, and it actually looks and sounds good.
Community... well, you've given us quite a few details of your progress. That's good. I suggest giving out alphas/betas if possible, they can help.
I made the player only have a single life because the game was very easy on its own with only 3 levels. I should have made alot more, but there was no time left unfortunately :(
and yes, I decided to make the bell a treasure too^^. So the player stelas all the treasure AND steals the bell in the end as well :D
Amount of health was a bit hard to see, would be better if the graphic was clearer
There were a number of times when I was killed by spikes I couldn't see until it was too late (ie. they were below me and I had to go down) - this got a bit annoying.
Checkpoints. Have them. Let me restart at level 2 if i get to level 2...
Aside from that, the game is fairly fun. It reminds me a lot of Spelunky.
I wasn't quite sure I understood the purpose of forcing the player to carry the gold skull around, as in my experience it didn't seem to add very much.
I also thought that the character ran a bit too fast, and that placing spikes off-screen was a bad level design decision.
Top marks for graphics and audio, though!
