Abscond by Hanoran

[raw]
made by Hanoran for LD21 (-)
Hi! This is my first Ludum Dare entry. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. In Abscond, you play as a serf who must feed his family and pay his lord. You're unhappy. You must construct a boat to escape from the island.

Your ending will be different based on how you complete the game.

When you get the wood from the tree it looks a lot like an erection. Just sayin'

The game was fun though kept me playing until I got the boat.

Couldn't quite keep playing til I got the boat, but very cool idea. Nice way of allow the player to keep involved while balance the resource management game out. Nice one!

So far the best entry I've seen. Really addictive. With enough polish to the sound and graphics, I'd play this on my android all day.

I too have to agree with the 'woody' comment and am awarding points to Humour as a result. Nice game :)

This game was really fun to play. I'm really impressed with how well you managed to balance in that short time!!!

Nice little game. Seems like it offers the player a few ways to play. For example, I didn't really plant anything but carrots, and I didn't see the need to get movement speed upgrades.

Fun game, fairly addictive, I liked the idea with the alternate endings, but it would be better to make the game shorter, then I would be inclined to play again to find some more endings. As it is, I feel like I've finished a marathon!

Interesting variation on Wasabi. Although it could use a bit more variation. I didn't plant anything but carrots either.

Good sound, music and graphics.

Very interesting concept, would love to see this expanded ( like with dungeons to explore and stuff). It does get a bit tedious and repetitive over time so I didn't manage to complete it. Anyways , good job!

Very nice idea, nice implementation, but I have to say I did not feel the need to play the game after two rounds of growing. I knew I could make both my family and my lord happy while cutting some wood every turn (put some rest here and there). Do I have the patience to do that the number of times needed to create the boat? No. And I can be picky because your game is complete, we are talking gameplay issues and balance here.

Full disclosure: I do not like "micro"management games :)

Anyways, good job, maybe add some variation to give more incentive to escape.

Actually I went back to play till the end. Turns out I might like micromanaging stuff. Thanks for making a nice submission.

A surprisingly fun resource management game, but it could use some new threats after you've upgraded a stat enough to be comfortable.

Quite a bit of fun. Relaxing and meditative, but at the same time you often risk misjudging the sequence of actions and end up critical on one or two parameters. Then you reach a comfort zone near the end where you can quickly finish your boat without worrying.

the gameplay was simple, but I really enjoyed it
