Dark Forest by rfgpfeiffer

[raw]
made by rfgpfeiffer for LD22 (COMPO)
a nightmare platformer

* Theme

You are alone in a forest. You cannot see the way home. You have a torch. When you use it, you might not be alone any more.

The central game mechanic is based on cartoon logic. The Monsters never move the darkness. A pair of eyes only becomes active when you see who is behind it.

Try not to get eaten and do not jump into bottomless pits! The fingerposts point to the next level.

* Requirements

Programmed with python 2.7.2 and pygame 1.9.1 on Ubuntu 11.10. Tested with 32-Bit Python 2.7 and pygame 1.9.2 on Windows.

run with =python main.py=

* Controls:
A,D: left,right
W: jump

Mouse: point torch
click to turn on the Light

Why can't you play it, NiceAlexanderas? Does it not run on your machine? Or do you mean it is too difficult?

I like it! However, you shouldn't open my web browser when the game is over; In my case the game wouldn't quit until I closed the browser as well and I was left wondering why a lynx instance was running on the console…

Fun game, cool work with flashlight mechanic! Would be cool if you didn't have to restart every time, I died quite a bit!

I regret not making a main menu too, jsjwooowooo. I usually write a separate program to launch the game with the right options, like Spring/Springlobby. I just ran out of time.

I might write a lobby with wxWidgets or TkInter for the extended version after the c3 congress.

Really good job with the light, in just 48 hours you did a good job.

I liked the gameplay idea and the graphics! I didn't like having to launch the game from scratch when dying. :-(

Pretty good for the time limit but could do with being a bit more complete, quitting on game over isn't exactly user friendly. I like the concept but in the current form it just makes the game difficult to play, but I can see it being quite fun with a little tweaking. Well done :)
