Propolis by sampyxis

[raw]
made by sampyxis for LD23 (JAM)
So this is our very first Jam. My husband did the last one but wasn't able to post and this one we all worked together. One big happy family! There is so much left to do but we will definitely do this again.
Notes:
We enjoyed this so much (and there is so much left to do!) that we'll probably be working on this for the next few weeks.

I think we can keep updating the entry, but if not, we'll put it on the blog here.

We tried to get a web version and mac version working, but had some native library conflicts. At least the download file works!
;-)

Quite buggy and unpolished, but a good start. Nice variety in the areas.

Not bad, maybe need a bit more of polish.

Good graphics.

When I tried to leave the forest with all of the potions in it the game froze. :( I really liked the artwork, music, and silly story, but the game could really use some instructions. I didn't realize I could double jump until near the end of my playtime, and I'm not sure if I have a weapon I can use or not?

Can't rate because I'm using a Mac. Sorry :(

Had the game freeze when I tried to leave the green room from the main screenshot. Simple but nice little game. Would have loved more animations, and maybe a more visual effect when you get hurt.

Very nice! Controls were a bit hard to handle, and it seems that enemies didn't cause much damage... but the graphics and audio are great, and it's quite a big game for such a short time! nice!

It seems you can get stuck in the forest level: the door disappears and you can never leave. Still, nice game!

I would play it if you had a web or osx version.

Annoying having to download, and run with java. Game's buggy, but I applaude the mood, and the effort.

Lovely game. Like the art style. You should make more feedback on which bugs are hurting you and which are friends. Also had some (code) bugs, one where I could not move anymore.

It's definitely pretty, and I like the way the protagonist moves, but the controls are a bit confusing and I eventually got stuck in the level where you can collect the five brown triangles on the right because when I tried to use the door the game froze and the door unloaded, and I couldn't leave the area. Someone said I had a knife and I couldn't figure out how to use it. Z just makes a dialogue box appear that does nothing.

Fun atmosphere, and I like the ambitiously large world. I wasn't quite able to experience the whole game, 'cause I hit the freeze people are mentioning here (when you leave the green area).

The exception is "org.newdawn.slick.SlickException: Failed to load sound: res/song_5.wav", by the way.

Want to play this but can't play due to the windows thing. Would play osx, linux, or web.

Hi all, thanks for the great feedback.

Right - lots of bugs ;-) We totally ran out of time.

So, the 4th level is as far as you can go right now.

Game play elements are totally flushed out in the code either ;)

Hopefully we'll update the build in the next day or so.

Thanks!

wouldn't run on my mac. I usually have better luck with java stuff, sorry I couldn't play this.

Really cute game- the backgrounds are vibrant with great stylization and the music is pleasantly mood-setting in a manner that nicely complements the small, simple scale of an insect's life. The story is intriguing and I always love a game with nice exploration aspects!

I'll play any updated, subsequent versions for sure! :) Really cute sprite and graphic work, good presentation, fun little package.

Nice little start, but it has some rough around the edges especially the AI and the controls are a bit strange.
But still I liked it. Especialy the visuals are well done.

I loved your graphical style, and the music was very nice too. The backgrounds were nice, but I didn't have much idea of what I was doing. :P Also, in the area with all the brown baggies, the game just kind of stopped when I tried to go back out through the door.

And as a side note, it's so cute that you and your husband worked on this together. :)

It would be nice to have some powerups and some kind of attack (with the sting maybe?)
Cute art and music though.
