Galactic Taxi by remeh

[raw]
made by remeh for LD23 (COMPO)
The galaxy is composed of many tiny worlds, each world are populated by humans. But their problem : with the expansion of the galactic internet, they meet friends and family members from other tiny worlds and so the need for transport between these worlds increased. This is why you've created a brand-new service : the galactic taxis. You are one of these galactic taxi-driver and you must transport people from world to world in a certain amount of time while avoiding meteorits. Also, be sure to not land to fast!

Note: the build is currently only for Linux and for distribution which have Allegro5 in their repository (which means not a lot... I can only say for the moment that ArchLinux does). I think I'll have to do a static compile... ouch.
For Windows, I don't have one right now, I'll create a build on Tuesday 24.

A video of the gameplay could be watched here : http://remeh.fr/files/galactictaxi.ogv

you dont need a static compile, just pack these .so files with it in the zip

I'd like to try this game, but I've no linux distro installed. I'm trying to compile the game for windows from source.

Hey guys. Sorry about the Windows build, I didn't have any free time before... I'm on it right now but I've a segfault that I don't even understand... I must have done something really bad somewhere because at the moment I can't even find the source of the problem...
I've succeed to setup (on linux) a cross-compiler for the Windows build, but well, I must code and compile on Linux and try the result on a Windows vm and look through printf to find the bug :D
I have one more hour to spend on it but after that, it could sound like the premature death of the ludum dare galactic taxi...
Next time, I'll make sure that my toolchain for different OSes is ready before the LD... lesson learnt.

Couldn't play it and rate it as I sadly only have a Windows machine at the moment. Watched the gameplay video, though, and I really like it! Lesson learned for me: have a Linux box setup for next LD so I can play cool games like this!

Overall a fun game, though a little too easy - I played to a score of about 5000 and then decided it was more fun killing the customers. Maybe a time limit for delivering the customers would have been good. Other than that: Solid entry. You should really try to provide a windows build so that more people can play it. It's worth it.

It looks like a fun little game from the video :) Unfortunately I'm on a Mac, so I can't play it.

How about I do you a deal - ill port it to windows for you, if you put a nice link to my game somewhere in your description :P
I've looked through it, and it looks like apart from statically linking allegro, everything should compile on windows just fine.

Thanks for your comments, again, sorry about the missing builds...
speciesUnknown : if you take the time to even try, you have a deal ;)

But everything was in the taxi... haha :DDD

Really good game. Bad it's only for linux, and you also need allegro.

You could have added something to the story like "The world exploded and then there were only many little parts of the world left.". That'd be fun.

looks cool and would still like to try it! read my top post, just include the listed files in the zip and it'll be runnable without trying to install the full allegro chain locally!

I thought this was a fun game. It wasn't too difficult if you take your time but my own impatience definately made it harder

I've started getting this to build with MSVC10, ive got it compiling but not linking - need to work out what allegro dependencies there are. Watch this space.

Hey, I just happen to be one of the >1% running 64bit Arch Linux! Cool little game. The graphics are simple but effective and very clean. Nice 8 bit music and sound effects. I accidentally murdered a customer, but didn't know why - is it only based on how fast you are going when you pick them up?

I cannot run this game and video file does not work too. Also you can try to use crosscompiler.

Very fun. Audio was perfect. The linux community needs more games like this.
