Essentially a tower defense game.

Controls:

Mouse - click on planet buttons (left panel) to buy planets; click on an orbit to add the purchased planet to your level.
ESC - Clears currently held planet.
SPACE/P - Pauses your planets (CAREFUL: The rest of the game will continue to function! Do this at your own risk!)

That was a lot of fun! I only made it to wave 3.

Keep adding to this game. I'd love to see what you could do with another 48 hours! :)

Thanks; there are clearly a few things that could use some polish (the art and the black text backgrounds being the most obvious), but I think I'm going to leave this as it is. Wasn't a big fan of the theme, but told myself I was going to participate, so I just made something.

lol I made it to wave six and got over-run, pretty fun game! There is a bug with the upgrade-cost though, it got stuck at 35 even though it was like 50 or more ><

I liked it, though I found it may have increased in difficulty to fast? But I may just suck at tower defense games :P

Yeah, definitely would have benefited from some sound. Nice concept, controlling a solar system. I liked it.

No...there's totally a difficulty bug. I have it decreasing arthimetically, so, eventually, the spawn delay goes negative and BOOM you're dead.

I also noticed about the upgrade cost just an hour or so ago. Didn't mean for upgrades to increase in value, so I didn't add attempt to update it. My bad. That's what 48 hrs does to ya.

You can also upgrade your food planets beyond my initial limit; at which point is just spams black boxes over your screen! :)

Nice take on a tower defense game. There is really no need to have the food resources fly off screen like that, however. It adds little to the gameplay to have me chasing after food going in two different directions.

@dick_claus: The defense planets have "gravity", kinda. They will pull in a single small ship as long as they are close enough to it. But no real gravity, per se.

Very fun. Was hard to know what the upgrade (I assume that's what the yellow chevron was) did - it didn't seem to have an obvious effect. Nice work; I agree sound would be cool. The death waves came as a surprise!

cool tower defence concept. I'd love to see more planets and stuff, and it was not fun when enemy bullets came flying at me from outside the screen.

Pretty cool, but controls were a little bit off. And the game pacing is too slow.

@Thotep: Agreed on the first count. The way that I attach planets to orbits is by having three circle masks stacked on top of each other, with the largest on the bottom and the smallest on the top (think Tower of Hanoi). When you click on the masks, the topmost mask will be the orbit to which you attach the planet. However, this means that you have to click inside the orbit, which makes things a bit weird when moving your mouse from the left side of the screen to the orbits. Also, the planet buttons often feel unresponsive. The upgrade button is the worst, since the cost shown doesn't reflect the actual cost. You could be smashing left-click wondering why it doesn't pull an upgrade, when you clearly have "enough" resources, according to the text.

I specifically remember monkeying with that stuff within the last 15 minutes before submission, so I may have accidentally borked the update cost text during that time.
