Space Cabin by trylle

[raw]
made by trylle for LD23 (JAM)
Plot: You're stuck on a tiny floating island and you've finally grown tired of it. Find a way home any way you can!

Features: 2.5D adventure game with text parser and timber chopping action.

How to play: Press enter to bring up the text parser (or just start typing), arrows to move around and shift to attack.

Unfortunately, no sound/music made it into the jam entry due to time constraints. Planning on fixing this for a later release.

Just a disclaimer: this game is actually completable. You will get an ending screen, even though I completely forgot doing a title screen. :)

Written in C++ using Boost, Bullet and custom framework.
Artwork made in Blender, Inkscape and Gimp.

Requirements: Windows Vista/7, Direct3D 11 compatible GPU (Sorry about the crazy requirements, also hoping to fix this later).

Included CRT with zip (no more msvcp100.dll missing errors).

I really liked the low-fi visual style of the game. It kinda reminds me of the old King's quest games.

I can't play this because I don't have a Windows system. Sorry.

This was pretty cool! Some pretty hard to guess things though ;) But I really liked the art.

(SPOILERS)

I got up to the spaceship, but I couldn't figure out how to enter it or anything.

Funny dialogue, but I got stuck at the end. Couldn't figure out that I needed to 'use spaceship'.

Thanks :) I was kind of rushing through the motions at the end there. Had actually intended a more elaborate ending. Anyways, I've added a walkthrough link in the description. Hopefully, people will check it if they get stuck. :)

Ditto. Could we get a mac/unix/web version?

I really liked the visuals here. Some of the puzzles could have used more hints but overall I could definitely play more of this!

I got an error when I tried to launch:
shader traits: Invalid parameter

Using Windows 7 on netbook.

Couldn't play it. Error on launch: "MSVCP100.dll missing"
Sorry.

It was kind of weird how the game crashed to close itself, but the game was awesome! I loved the shader and the gameplay was great for being so short. I got stuck on a few phrases because I wasn't saying them right, eg "enter spaceship", but otherwise it was well done.

Hilarious jokes. Visual style makes a good mood. Good use of the theme. Had to use walkthrough because couldn't figure out all commands.

Ah, if you do get crashes, I'd appreciate it if you send the bug report via the embedded crash reporter, but I haven't actually checked whether that still works. :D

Oh, with regards to ports, I am working on trying to port the game to linux first and then hopefully a web version via emscripten (don't have a mac myself, so I'm hoping a html5 version will do). Dunno if I'll manage to get those done before judging closes, though. :p

Very funny game; hilarious axe animation! Had to use walk-through to get out of the control room, light bonfire and use spaceship. Was funny first time round, but probably won't play again. Hope you enjoyed your first Ludum Dare!

I couldn't get it to run... :/ The crash reporter seemed to work though.

Nice visual style and humour. A shame that, whilst the puzzles were pretty easy, I struggled to communicate what I wanted to do through the parser. A simple help command with a list of the commands used in the game would have helped a lot.

Great game! Glad you put the spoiler link though, cause find adventure games frustrating unless the text parser and gameplay is really varied, would never have worked out to do all those things. Love the super fast axe swinging.

The game crashed when I tried to run it on a Win7 x64 system with a Radeon 5700 series graphics card (DX11)

Great! Looks great, clever, funny. Real shame there's no mood-setting music, and I did need the walkthrough a few times (but then again I'm a bit stupid at these kind of games).

I really like the unique visual style -- hope to see a more 4-year-old-GPU-friendly version soon! ;)

I was completely blown away by your visual style, right off the bat. Great job there. And I loved the concept of combining an exploration based adventure game with a text-based adventure game. It worked really well. I was sad when I chopped down both trees and was told I only needed one tree's worth of lumber. :P Also, the first time I walked into the trees that were "just drapes." Outstanding job.

Crashed on open - complained that a .dll was missing - I'm using XP32, if that makes a difference.
