9Lives by TheGamingProject

9Lives is a game that follows the story of Cary the Cat who wakes up to find that his love Kitie has gone missing. Along his journey Cary goes through many different environments and encounters many different obstacles. You play as Cary in this pixelated adventure, there are some cool cats as you go along, so be sure to talk to them especially if you believe you are stuck.

This game was developed by The Gaming Project which consists of four members, we worked as much as we could over the three days, but school and work took up some of our precious work time.

The games Protagonist Cary and his love Kitie are based on two of our friends in real life who are about to get married, we made this game as a birthday present to the real Cary. All eight cats (and the one dog) are also all based on pets of our friends. It was an extremely fun project and we hope everyone who plays it enjoys it.

The game was coded in HTML5 which is new for us so not everything is as smooth as it could be. We plan over the next few days to polish up the game and extend it some more. In addition we plan to make the sound work on all browsers, currently it does not work on Safari or Internet Explorer. Below a link to the background music is provided if you are interested.

Please let us know what you think and enjoy.

***Yes the game is very small, you can zoom in with your browser if it helps.***

Great music. Main problem for me: hard to see what's happening

Great soundtrack. As noted, the game itself was a bit difficult to see, and a bit unforgiving at times. Nice work though!

Love the style, but I agree the art is really small. Needs to be scaled 2x or more; as it stands I have no idea whats happening. It took me almost a full minute of flailing to figure out what to do on the first screen.

hard to see what is going on, nice game nonetheless.

What a cute game! I had some trouble finishing the dirtboarding level, but maybe that's just my lack of skill.

Ooh.. definitely tiny! Very cute! I got stuck at the top of the tree trunk with the snails... not sure if that was a bug or if I just couldn't figure out what to do?

Definitely full marks for visuals. It looks amazing, albeit small. My biggest gripe was that the webpage you hosted it on didn't have scrollbars. So when I first played, I couldn't tell that there were instructions until I Ctrl- the entire page. The rest was fun though. Very cute!

Several very small games, actually so tiny it's hard to see. Cute, but a little bigger would help (I almost gave up in first platformer level because I had problems to see that the ground has holes).

I like it, I think it's actually a deceptively ambitious concept. The only thing I would suggest is working on the controls. I actually like the tiny graphics, they are awesome.

Very funny/weird/quirky little game - I enjoyed it! The graphics are absurdly small, but as you mentioned you can zoom in with the browser. The minigames themselves aren't too compelling but the overall experience was good.

That was cool. I liked the bunch of self-contained games thing it had going, it was a creative interpretation of the theme. The parts themselves were rather unextraordinary, but they come together to make a rather surreal game.

This raised more than a few smiles for me - sure the views are a little small but that just seems part of its charm. Lovely!

Really good work!!! The game was a bit short, but well done! You have a great amount of fantasy!

Haha, that was fun. Nice music, mood, and the action moving around the screen for different scenes with different gameplay was really cool and clever. I really enjoyed this!

The game was quite brilliant. The 9 different mini games were each amazing in their own way. Keep it up gaming project.

such a great game
the storytelling was awesome and it's incredible how much different gameplay you managed to squeeze into this.

It is a bit too tiny, at least on my display.
I am really liking the transistions, it feels like a storybook or comic but also a game.

The music is pleasent.
The game did jam when I was climbing the tree. The snail hitting sound started looping and I couldn't do anything anymore.

Aside from tininess and bugs very nice.

Indeed a reduced view port, it makes it very hard to comfortably play the game.

Having a bunch of minigames is very ambitious for a short-timescale competition, so good job pulling that off. I agree with everyone that the viewport and lack of scrollbar makes it very difficult to play, but I did finish it. Cute story.

You made a lot of mini games with a lot of graphics :o
the art is pretty cool and it's interesting to see what will come after each mini game.

I didn't know inudge, it looks fun.

I zoomed in my browser as recommended.

The text ditracted me from looking at the graphics. Had fun plying the little mini games, didn't really get the story though.

Extremely unforgiving for some of the levels, super easy for others. Other than that, nice game!

So many minigames! You use the screen in some cool ways, but there are moments where everything it too small to really see what's going on. There's as much text as gameplay.

Tiny indeed. The problem with browser zoom (firefox) was the arrow keys would cause the page to bounce around. I won the game nevertheless, nice job.
