Universal Singularity

This is an old school dodgem style console game complete with unfair collision detection and shitty controls! (no diagonal movement!). It is pretty hard to win but half the fun is seeing how long you last! Post your times below and let me know if you collected 7 power cells for the win!

Story:

The universe is collapsing in on itself for an unspecified reason! You are the last human alive and your spaceship is being compressed towards a singularity. Your only chance of survival is to collect enough fusion cells to create a wormhole to escape to another universe. You need 7 fusion cells. You need to collect these cells before the universe shrinks to a tiny point!

As the universe contracts, weird quantum effects are being observed on a macro scale such as the superposition of matter. Avoid the plasma balls and avoid being caught in the middle of some materialising matter!

Instructions:

* Use the arrow keys to move
* Press 'r' to restart the game
* Collect 7 flashing power cells to win
* Avoid the fireballs and phase matter
* You can pass though phase matter unharmed when it is transparent.

Decent game, collision is horrible though. It made it basically impossible to beat. Best I got was 5 cells.

I managed to escape the universe after several tries! But the difficulty level was drastically different each time due to random factors.

Okay game I guess, but having four things shooting at you plus randomly appearing obstacles just made the game impossible for me...

Nice graphics, especially the death animation, which i saw many, many times!

Wow, that was tough! I think a more fluid, 8-direction movement would make it easier to dodge and get around. I really like the idea of bits of the universe manifesting in and around the player.

I found the controls pretty difficult, only being able to move up/down/left/right and having them randomly not respond, but I was strangely mesmerised by the dying animation...

I liked this! Pretty harsh difficulty curve but the animation was fun, and it was pretty compelling to get those crystals. I managed 4 and got telefragged by a house I think...

Thanks for all the great feedback and comments!!

Yeah I'm painfully aware of how shitty the movement and collision detection are. This was my first use of Unity3d physics with the 2dToolkit and I couldn't get them playing well together in the time I had. I might release an updated version sometime in the future that's a bit easier and fixes some of the collision box problems.

That was really hard. The controls could have been a lot smoother, and it could have used some more in game explanation. But overall its okay.

Annoying collisions. Also move too slowly and annoying that you die in one hit. Interesting game though.

The controls are horrible; only being able to move one direction at a time is a serious pain in the gluteus maximus. And although the art is decent, it just doesn't seem to look right against the backdrop.

The one thing I did like was the audio; that was pretty cool.

Graphics are nice, remind me of old PC adventure games for some reason. The control feels somehow fishy and the collision is also very punishing.

Sound is alright.

wow! awesome, hard game! I love it. Was down to 2 cells left, then I died. Brutal!

38.9s is my best, dang what a punishing game.

Oh man that was brutally hard! I think the thing I hated the most was the lack of diagonal controls. Was that intentional? Best I ever did was 6-7 seconds and 4 cells collected. Too many random unfair things would happen to trap you and those sparks moved so much faster than you they would close in and shoot ya. I played at least 10 times though since it's so quick and arcade style.

Your description is quite apt! :) I can only get about 4 cells. It's quite hard! The vibe is real old-skhool though, which and makes me forgive the controls...
