The Collector by blob
You are a wizard and a monster collector. However, monsters take a lot of space and in order to fit them in your Terrorium, you first have to shrink them down. GO and explore the world around you, capturing and bringing back home the tiny versions of deadly monsters that wander around. Do not forget to feed them though or they will starve to death... Gain experience, become a better spellcaster and become the ultimate collector !
It is a dangerous sports though... Will you be strong enough to beat and capture even the fierce hellspawns that dwells down below ?
----Gameplay and tips:
*left and right to move. Double tap to run.
*Up to jump, Up again for a double jump.
*Left click for a fireball.
*Right click for the shrink spell ( only works on weakened enemies and if the spell is charged enough time).
You can charge a stronger shrink spell every time you level up.
*Get experience by killing monsters, get double experience by capturing them. You can capture 5 of each type of monster except for bosses ( only 1 ).
*collect food or your monsters will starve. Food grows back after a long time.
*Drop off monsters ( get extra XP again) and food at your Terrorium at home.
* Press enter to look at your terrorium and its inhabitants you caught.
* Messages at the top of the screen will tell you if your shrink spell is either not charged enough for the monster you shot or if the monster still has too much health. It will also warn you when you approach some dangerous places.
* When you fight a monster, remember it's strength ! Its the best way to know how to capture it!
*There IS an ending. Good luck.
*There is a total of 8 different creatures +2 bosses to get.
----Notes:
Apologies for the Mac and Linux versions which seem to have issues with aiming and musics!
Only current way to quit is to force quit ( alt+F4 or alt tab)
Thanks to Anaconda for making Mac and Linux exporters.

I love the visual of your game :)
But I have problems with the mac version: I can not aim! The bullet goes in a random direction...
The aiming issue clearly happens on all mac and linux ports however I do not know yet how to correct this problem. Very sorry :( Im extra annoyed this happened on a windows game too, argh.
Ouch, upscaling might look bad on wide screens. Did not test that.
Also, there is an end. For it you need capture the demon lord and bring him back to your terrorium. You ll then have a "retire" option in there.
The best part of your game is the graphical stuff (specialy the scene graphics and the wizard).
The music is a little repetitive but is better than nothing (I didn't put music on my game and sound effects either, so your music and effects are better than mine :D).
I miss a minimap, or at least if there is one I don't know how to see it, I started the game and made the wizard run ignoring the enemies and traps until I got totally lost.
I think that visually is a good game, but have to improve the gameplay, but ¡hey! You only had 48 hours!
PS.-It worked fine on my windows. :)
One bug though - I couldn't exit the program except by alt-tab'ing out and closing it through task manager.
Nice work!
Very sorry again for all linux and mac users, if I find a solution I will post a new separate version.
SoulCrusher: First, thanks ! The monsters and food are automatically dropped off in your Terrorium when you get back to it. The food stored is visible when you look at your terrorium ( press enter when you re on it ). Monsters will automatically consume food with time. If there is no more food stored they will start dying one by one !( starting from the weaker ones ).
Yes I was thinking the same :)
Adding some NPCs, small quests related to bringing certain types of monsters... Adding a familiar too, like a crow who speaks with the wizard. These kinds of stuff :)
I believe the game IS tough.
The design was that you need to count and remember the ennemy's health so that when you encounter them again you can approximately know when they can be captured. Maybe its too hard or maybe I should have hinted this strategy ingame ?
If I might make a suggestion though, would be cool if your fireballs traveled on an arc instead of a straight line. this would make it easier to target enemies on higher and lower platforms.
You know what could be really cool too ? That the arc of the fireball is controled by how fast you rotate your arm when you shoot... I ll have to look into that :)
Thanks for letting me know.
Wow that was a cool game! Had no problems with aiming, perhaps mapping the controls to the w,a,s,d would have made more sense, so that you don't have to push your arms too much to the right, but that's a minor issue. I really like how this ties to the theme - the mage trying to find stuff for his terrarium. I also like the fact that there is a leveling system, that defines what creatures you can get for your tiny world. One thing that I couldn't see, which I see now from the screenshots, is any indication of how much health you've got left. I think the heart in the HUD is shrinking when you have less health, but in the heat of battle, it's not really clear - at one point I thought that I'm invincible and of course died a little after :D I also like the fact that the world is open for you to explore. Perhaps some restriction or a clear warning when you get to the lower levels, since I went there and was just level 2, so I had to run the majority of the time, then actually battle the creatures found there. Another thing is, when you kill certain enemies, but walk through their spawn point, they appear again, which is kind of disappointing, especially if you run into a dead end and then turn back and the enemies that you just killed are there again. But apart of those things, the game is great! I enjoyed playing it for sure!
There is a warning for a couple dangerous pits for low levels that are displayed in the text box at the top, but I think they are easily missed especially if you're fighting at the same time...
Missed some time to refine the spawning tweaking further. I wanted to avoid the exploit of leaving the screen ( which disables the monsters ) and coming back to avoid fights easily.
It feels like for the most part gameplay-wise capturing creatures is more effort than it's worth. It's just double the XP, you've got to take them all the way home and then you've got to keep them fed and XP doesn't increase anything except what you can capture. Still, collecting them is fun and cool.
Sorry guys, didnt get a reply from the exporter's creator...
I'd definitely be tempted to play through this but after a couple of unforgiving game overs I had to ragequit, at least for now :)
Love the concept, graphics and music were pretty good. Pretty fun gameplay too but the openness of the level design got very overwhelming for me quickly and I had to put the game down because of that.
It was a little bit awkward for me using both the arrow keys and mouse, it would be better with the option of using WSAD I think. It'd be nice if the enemies re-spawned a bit slower, too. I had a lot of trouble running back to my house :(
Anyway, the interpretation of the theme was really awesome :D
