How much life can you create on this tiny world?

This game is inspired by Conway's game of life. Place Earth, Grass, Forest and Water to make the single cell of life you get flourish.

Move the planet around with the W,A,S,D keys. Make a selection with the arrow keys and place your tile with SPACE. When you place the life tile the life simulation starts and you will see your life grow.

The game is built for Chrome and has been tested to work in Chromium on Linux. If you're having trouble running it on linux try this: http://www.borfast.com/blog/how-enable-webgl-google-chrome-linux-blacklisted-graphics-card

It does not work on Firefox because of some features we use. If we find the time we will try to find out what specifically does not work and port it.

Actually I've just tested with both chromium and chrome but it doesn't even start. Too bad cause my game too took inspiration from game of life, so I'm really interested to see your work.. Any idea on how to make this working? Can you put a video maybe?

Seems like an interesting idea, but I needed some more guidance on what type of area to set up! I tried a few times but never got any life to survive, so I couldn't figure it out.

Hey Rose, a hint is given in the tutorial, life needs forest and water. If you place a few blocks of forest together, and then life at the edge next to water then it should live for a while :) Thanks for playing!

Angrygeometry: if you don't like Google then Chromium should also work. It's all free software and easy to install :)

brus46: Hey what version of chrome are you using, on what os? did you try the workarounds for linux if you're on linux?

I will put up a youtube video tomorrow :)

Ok in another machine it worked with google chrome out-of-the-box probably my other machine has some problem with gl and chrome. btw nice adaptation of the game of life! I mean you've added different grounds and a spherical surface which makes more interesting the whole thing. good job!

Fun simulation toy-- I forgot to record my score before closing the tab, but it got through quite a few cycles before terminating :P.

A very fun simulation! I managed to get around 35 total points with my most alive being 27.


I liked how there are musical notes that play each update on the terrain, it kinda makes a song sometimes and is really nice!

It was also a nice aesthetic choice to take the time to make a 3d world, rather than a 2d grid. It must of been really complicated to design and I applaud your dedication!

Thanks! We actually started with the idea to create a Tetris/Arkanoid game on a sphere, and spent the entire saturday figuring out maths to work out the shape of blocks. We finally decided it was too complicated and started over on sunday, creating this from what we had :P

Pretty fun, I'm a huge fan of cellular automata, and exploring a new kind to find repeating patterns is always neat.

The light causes some really dark patches on one side of the planet. For a mid-way change you ended up with a pretty fun game.

I like the idea but I couldn't seem to score above 0. More feedback after a run and information on the 'rules' would be helpful.

Running chrome on Ubuntu... couldn't get past intro screen. Pressing 'h' did indeed show and hide help panel but no amount of pressing enter would advance into the game. Too bad, seemed like a neat idea with some good in-universe writing around it! (Just realized this machine doesn't have programmable pixel shaders, maybe webGL is failing to initialize? if so maybe you can check for that and message the player)

Excellent puzzle game! Worked perfectly. Very original idea. I've always been a huge fan of cellular automata. This would make a cool mobile APP. Keep up the good work.
