Still, it gets -1 overall on my score for not being finished, despite the amount of polish.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>The gameplay was pretty simple, but it was very well made and provided an actual challenge - I died multiple times, yet none of the deaths felt unfair. The controls worked perfectly, and the amount of polish is amazing for an LD game.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>Theme-wise, this game was brilliant. It's an innovative way to use the subject, and it's completely central to the game. I couldn't ask for better.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>The graphics were clean and charming, and functionally they were perfect; despite the abstract style it was clear who was an enemy and who wasn't, you could instantly see where you could walk and where you couldn't walk, and the simple effect on the transforming enemies clearly conveyed that you were fucked if you were too close. My only complaint is that it might have been too abstract - if hadn't been for the text, you wouldn't know you were in a raindrop. For that matter, I never really know what exactly my allies and enemies were, other than 'those star-shaped things' and 'those round things'.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>Sound-wise, the game simply does its job. There's no background music, but the storm sounds do a great job of setting the atmosphere. Everything that needs a sound has a sound, and the entire thing just feels right. It wasn't revolutionary in any way, but what it did, it did perfectly.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>The story was interesting and fairly innovative. I wanted to continue through the game to find out what happens next, which is always a good sign.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>The game lagged significantly, which might have been caused by Flash. Still, the game was playable, even if most of it was in slow-motion.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>It's a damn shame the game isn't finished, otherwise this would be an easy 5\/5."},{"author_name":"kato9","author_uid":"5821","time":"Apr 25, 2012 @ 9:20pm","epoch":1335388500,"text":"Great game, I liked the RPGish elements. This is a nice feature.\r<br\/>However:\r<br\/>- the game is a bit hard or maybe the shooting ennemies are too strong\r<br\/>- the player is too slow IMO, same for the shooting frequency\r<br\/>- it's not very clear at first that the "branches" of the player represent it's amount of life.\r<br\/>- having to click in a game that you control with the keyboard is at first annoying, yet makes sense when you get the weapon\r<br\/>\r<br\/>Keep up the good work !"},{"author_name":"JaJ","author_uid":"5496","time":"May 12, 2012 @ 12:19pm","epoch":1336824840,"text":"I love this genre, and even though the game ended in the middle of the story, it felt as one of the most complete in its genre made this ludum dare (as far as I played them.) You could do a little more with the visuals to make it really feel like a world inside a raindrop, perhaps some blurry backgrounds that show hints of the bigger world around it. The audio was moody, but I think inside the raindrop the storm wouldn't sound so clear, but more hollow and deformed."},{"author_name":"jfroco","author_uid":"2085","time":"May 13, 2012 @ 6:22am","epoch":1336889820,"text":"Great game, hope you finish it."},{"author_name":"jeffz","author_uid":"4842","time":"May 14, 2012 @ 12:17am","epoch":1336954320,"text":"brilliant!"},{"author_name":"MurrayL","author_uid":"7835","time":"May 14, 2012 @ 12:19am","epoch":1336954440,"text":"Really hard :("}],"images":["ld23\/1712-3e7381b5909958f2adce2eb310c701da.jpg","ld23\/1712-29a55b5e5e562cd485b2d572f0f2f257.jpg","ld23\/1712-91ee9bf769fe189736ccd2c1cbaf1855.jpg","ld23\/1712-8a15421a4bcdd5ffe2518c2505d4440c.jpg","ld23\/1712-55dc96e9642ea0a0af4e1bc129677883.jpg"],"links":[{"url":"http:\/\/galacticgaming.net\/hosting\/ld23\/","text":"Play on Web (Flash)"},{"url":"https:\/\/github.com\/31\/Hero-of-Rain","text":"Source (game)"},{"url":"https:\/\/github.com\/31\/Statework","text":"Source (basecode)"},{"url":"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=leZi1LZ4koU","text":"Playthrough (Youtube)"}],"metadata":{"g_key":"30331","g_author":"1712","g_event":"LD23","g_eventkey":"10","g_subevent":"COMPO","g_urlkey":"30361","g_title":"Hero of Rain","g_status":"UCHK1","g_place":"48","g_commentcount":"33","g_site2_node_id":"0","g_hide":"N","g_has_icon":"Y","g_rqueue":"0","g_random":"0"},"nds":[],"node":null,"orig_images":["http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/123793\/1712-shot0.jpg-eq-900-500.jpg","http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/123793\/1712-shot1.jpg-eq-900-500.jpg","http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/123793\/1712-shot2.jpg-eq-900-500.jpg","http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/123793\/1712-shot3.jpg-eq-900-500.jpg","http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/123793\/1712-shot4.jpg-eq-900-500.jpg"],"text":"----Introduction----\r\n\r\nGreat LD! I had the time to spend pretty much all weekend on my game, with breaks for sleeping and eating.\r\n\r\nI had my idea pretty early on, luckily. Unluckily, it was an action adventure game, and every time I've tried to make one of those I didn't finish much of the story. This LD was no exception--the ending is quite abrupt.\r\n\r\nHowever, I still think it's possible to enjoy this game, short as it is.\r\n\r\n\r\n----Controls----\r\n\r\n- WASD for movement\r\n- Click on dialogue to advance\r\n- Click on doors to unlock\r\n- Click and hold to shoot once you have the gun\r\n\r\n\r\n----Background----\r\n\r\nThe in-game story may be a bit confusing because of the format I had to relay it in. I also wrote the dialogues all out of order, so they aren't even very well-planned.\r\n\r\nThis tiny world, Drop, is contained within a drop of rain. Its people live in hyperaccelerated time, so much like how each human's life in the universe's lifespan is insignificant, each *'s lifetime is insignificant to the Drop.\r\n\r\nRecently, Drop has merged with another water droplet, causing a nasty war between their inhabitants. Worse than this is an apocalypse--Drop is falling dangerously close to the ground.\r\n\r\nIt is hopeful legend that a hero will propel Drop back into the Clouds, to allow it to survive for the length of another fall. Guess who that is?\r\n\r\n\r\n----Supported platforms----\r\n\r\nThis section includes some keywords for people who search for their preferred platform to find games to play.\r\nWindows, Mac OS X, Linux, or anything else with Flash Player.<\/p>","title":"Hero of Rain"}
