Zombie Fish by Ethanh59

[raw]
made by Ethanh59 for LD23 (COMPO)
Didn't quite have enough time to add in everything I wanted but at least its playable. Going to try working on a post-compo version of it with bugfixes, more features, and more challenging gameplay.

Swim around and eat the fish(swim into them) within the time limit to proceed to the next level.

Controls:
-WASD or Arrow Keys to rotate view
-Spacebar to move forward
-F11 to toggle fullscreen

Fish Eye can be turned on/off in the controls menu as I figured most people wouldn't like it.(Although I left it on by default because it fits the game and makes it more challenging at the same time)

Good entry, I liked the fish animations and the idea. Playing with the fisheye on is really difficult! The timer running out doesn't actually end the game. Would have been nice with some atmosphere sounds.

Why is the fov 9000?! My brain! Apart from that, very nice!

i clicked 'Web' and was prompted to download something. as such:

***I'm posting this on all non-browser games I bring up in an attempt to encourage folks to make browser games next time around. Do not take it personally.***

When hundreds of people make non-browser games, that means that, to play all of the entries, I would need to download hundreds of games to my computer. I typically use OS X, so Windows-only entries are particularly inconvenient.

Please consider making a browser game next time.

If its prompting you do download something(probably LD23.jnlp) it's just a security setting in your browser. Just click Open and the game will run in its own window straight from the web unless you don't have java installed.

Heh - extreme FOV - neat. Timer didn't do anything after it expired - I think the game needs more risk / danger to be fun.

The fish eye view made it ten times harder, but a hundred times more awesome!

Interesting concept! Definitely agree, fisheye is pretty hard! ...but a nice touch!

I tried the web link, but it downloaded a file that didn't run properly.

I played up to level five... SHARK SHARK is one of my all-time favorite games, so entries in this genre are right up my alley. First off, fisheye mode seems... broken. It was like you dipped your projection matrix in sulfuric acid. The fishbowl turned inside out and I originally thought my fish was a crossbow. I almost quit and didn't come back, but then I saw a comment here about turning off the fisheye mode and so I returned for four boards. Overall, I like eating fish. I will say though, that being underwater without audio is kind of boring. Also, why do the fishes do nothing but go in circles? It makes them easy to snack on, but gets repetitive. Wouldn't some of them move randomly, or at least move in different patterns? Also, it was somewhat disappointing that nothing happened when I ate a fish. No animation, or sound effect or anything. It really would have been cool to have some more theatrics. Aside from that, thanks for making a fish eating game. I think once you add audio and AV feedback for eating fishes and a more fishy UI, you are good as gold.

I clicked on web and it opened up in a standalone Java file. The FOV is extraodinarily high! It hurt my eyes!

Nice idea! Couldn't catch the fish to save my life. Luckily, there was no death.

The java webstart file installed something, but it didn't run. Trying to run it a second time did nothing more.

Difficult but cool! I would have liked that the other fish could eat you!

It says eat all the fish in the time frame to advance, but if you eat all the fish after the time frame, you can still advance. I find the turning speed horizontally wayy to slow when you compare it to the crazy fast speed vertically. The tank also sometimes seems to get in the way of the camera, which I suppose is for the feeling of a tiny world? Otherwise, nice job! Very colorful fish to prey on. >:D

This was fun. And why did fish stopped spawning after i won approximately 7 levels? Here http://i.imgur.com/FLTfC.jpg

Once I turned off the fisheye I did a lot better. Gets a bit boring after 3 or 4 levels, but did keep me entertained for the first few as I tried to get better at eating the fish within the time limit. I enjoyed the environment and the bright colors of the fish.

Very cool! This was very fun, and some great background audio would have just completed it. Also I don't know if it was the FOV but when I thought I hit a fish to eat it sometimes I would never get it.

This was a strange, yet amusing entry. The whole fish-eye perspective works well for visual mindfuckness and brings a distinctive flavor. However it needs more hazards or any sort of obstacles besides time to make it even more fun! I liked the concept too =)

Nice little idea, wish there were more variation in the gameplay.

Interesting concept. But the controls make it very difficult to play. Mouselook would have been more intuitive.

You deserve a trophy for "best abuse of projection matrix," but I can't find a way to award it.

Fishy idea! I had a laugh when I asked myself: "WTF kind of projection is this?". It's really hard to do anything with this projection, but it fits to the game like fish into water.

The best strategy to win seems is to figure out how the uninfected fish swim an lurk on that postion until they come to be eaten.

Sadly I couldn't finish the game it has too much content! I got motion sick in level 4.

The fish eye make it feel really weird (in a good way) but perhaps a bit hard to control. Some more dynamic movements would be nice. Nice idea!

I killed all the fishies with the fish-eye lens on. I thought that was a cool feature that added some difficulty to the game. Then I tried turning it off and noticed that I was actually having a little more fun because it was easier to control.

This is a pretty cool entry but it desperately needs audio and win/loss conditions!

I tried to open the Web option on the web - alas, 'twas not to be. Then the download wanted unrestricted access to my computer. Sorry, I think you can manage something a little less scary next time.

Nice idea, a smaller field of view and more expansive swimming area would be nice.

The fish turned too slowly, and then moved too fast. A little frustrating. Otherwise, solid effort.

I like the idea and the concept. It could really use some sound - I was kind of expecting the zombie fish to be making some groaning and munching noises. The fish-in-the-aquarium theme in general is very fitting with the Tiny World theme.
