Grow by Certainty

[raw]
made by Certainty for LD24 (COMPO)
Here is my submission for the evolution themed Ludum Dare Compo 48 hour game development contest #24.

'Grow' is a Flash game where you collect items to grow bigger and evolve while avoiding enemies which halt and reverse your evolution process.
I tried to give this game an kind of Atari style theme too it by making the game look like it is being projected from a TV screen and using very simple highly pixelized sprites and I think it turned out ok.

Have fun playing!

Really liked the style of the game. I found even medium difficulty to be quite difficult.

This game entertained me for a while. It was a little frustrating how precise one had to be with the bombs, since it was pretty much impossible to evade two enemies coming from perpendicular sides. The whole changing graphics thing, where I went from a dot to a man-thing was cool (although more of a connection to the theme would be nice)

I liked the type of game, but it was just too small to play for very long

Very hard to hit things with the tiny little bombs. If the enemies had an acceleration based seeking behavior instead of a velocity one it would be possible to shake them off a bit more and get a bit more maneuverability and time. The first playthrough I didn't see any evolution elements. I think I kept getting hit or placing mines consumes evolution powers... Pretty cool, but very hard to stay upgraded.

Pretty neat, especially the visual style. For some reason the audio cuts out after playing again, and that takes a lot from the experience. Some additional (easier) enemy types or obstacles would go a long way.

The idea was great! But the bombs were too small.

I like the visual style. The gameplay is really hard. I wish there could be more strategy or timing to placing the bombs, rather than just dropping them behind you when you're getting chased. I expected it to be more of a Missile Command type thing.

A very creative, interesting game. The visual style is rather pleasing. The enemies are extremely annoying though, since they always take the shortest possible route to you, and are very difficult to hit with your bombs, especially if you're attack in numbers. Overall, a solid game.

Love the retro look and feel of the game. The scan lines were pretty cool like an old school monitor! The only criticisms I have are for the actual game play - the enemies follow you too precisely - perhaps make them lag behind you a little. Also at the start you need far too much precision to pick up the food - perhaps expand the collision detection a little more.

Nice graphics, I'm always happy to see retro graphics. I like the gameplay, event it is a bit hard. I think it should be nice feature if you can escape on one side of the screen and appear on opposite, like in pac-man. Overall, good game.

Old Tv screen with arcade feelings, easy controls and gameplay, smooth sounds, the screen is little but the concept is big, so I liike this ,good job :)

liked the simulated TV effect! I wish I could have played this fullscreen, it would have been easier to see the graphics, which are too tiny at the resolution it's sized to in my window. I got to Rank C but I think the AI is a bit simple.
