Blocks of Life by jayserp

This is my first entry into a Ludum Dare competition. It is built from scratch using Unity3d, with assets being created in Adobe Fireworks.

The 'Cubes of Life' uses the mechanics of Conway's Game of Life to generate Cubes in a grid formation. The player must run around and destroy these cubes until they are all gone, or the 60 seconds is up. Your score is the number of cubes you break. Destroying a cube by running into it or shooting it removes that cube from the game, so it will not affect future generations. You decide how the cubes evolve.

Good start! Here're my thoughts:
1. Game of life itself is very beautiful when you watch it evolving and in your game you don't give player a chance to get an overall picture of it. I think a minimap could have been a very good addition both to playability and fun.
2. I think making it a bit faster could have made it more fun. Yet you should make cube destroyable in a smaller amount of time too.
Hope this helps )

I'm a big fan of the game of life, so I was familiar enough with the mechanics to actually work this. It's fun but it could've used an over the top map in one of the corners to help the player understand the patterns he's seeing.
