My second game for the Ludum Dare :) In theory it is about the evolution of kittens, but it's not really finished. Currently it is more about fighting. But: There are 7200000000000 possible different kittens in the game! ;) Thanks for playing!

Tools used:
- GraphicsGale + Paint.Net
- Aviary Music Creator (http://advanced.aviary.com/) for the music
- Meow-Sounds from http://www.freesound.org/
- Eclipse / Java 1.6
- JLayer for MP3

The game:
- Click with your mouse
- Buy a kitten
- Fight!
- Level up.
- Get another kitten, buy some food and let them mate.
- Get 5000$ to win. (Sorry, there is no real goal...)

I will upload the source asap.

Cute characters! But I don't see evolution in this game.

Thanks @Bender, I used to test the game on my 2nd display, which is the left one, so the game opens at -1000px :) I will fix this immediately.

@LemonTree: The evolution was thought to be the combination of kittens, but it's not nearly finished. :) The focus somehow shifted during the coding...

An interesting entry! I liked the graphics, and thought the idea was great, but as was said by lurkingshadow, it's was kinda hard to figure out what to do in the beginning. I didn't know that I had to click on arena.

This is a brilliant concept. Cat fighting simulator

Very cool idea. Kittens look pretty - are you gluing different cat parts together? Like head + body, then colour it? It looks that way, and is pretty awesome (I should know, I used the same idea!:P) - your animations are great. I'm not sure how to mate stronger kittens (seems kinda random), and I don't know what different features mean. It might have been too big project for LD jam, but it's quite playable. Good job!

Too good - lots of fun. Would have liked for my inbred kittens to have developed some kind of awful mutation, but maybe next time?

Loved it, the random cat names were awesome, sound was cool, the only problem was the fighting it could have done with being more random, besides that EPIC game! =)

Seems cool. But. It's pretty much impossible to win the first battle. I don't understand why you didn't have a reasonable difficulty curve. I never even was able to get 2 cats. It seems evolution should have been pushed front and center.

Yepp, the original idea was to focus the evolution of the cats, but you know, time was short :)

@marudziik: Yepp, there are 4x4 cat parts (body, head, ears, face) - so there are 256 possible cats + colors :)

@demonpants: 10h before the deadline there was no fighting system, so I barley finished the game and there was no time for balancing. The game needs a lot more polish, I hope my next entry will do it better :)

Seems like a pretty cool idea. It would benefit from some polish of course... almost all LD48 games would.

Haha, that was awesome. I really liked that idea and it was well done. A bit too easy if you keep mating though. The performance on my computer was quite annoying, it was almost frozen at some points like in the store. Good job.

Lol, this is so sadistic... but also awesome...

There is a problem here, and it's a rather important one: the game feels rather slow and unresponsive. Often when I clicked, the game wouldn't respond, and when it did it felt slow to do so. It could just be my machine, but you may want to look into this.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I want to compliment you on the excellent pixel art and game concept. I basically love every aspect of the game - just make it more responsive and it'll be great.

Protip if you're trying to win the first battle: pick a fight with a kitten with 6 str, and then mash attack and swipe as fast as possible. You might get lucky.

Difficulty feels very, very off - but game itself is pretty fun and polish. Hope it gets rebalanced...

Was alot of fun, perhaps the food needs to be consumed, as it was far too easy to just mate the hell outta the kittens, and have an overpowered super strong cat from right off the bat, great concept though, really enjoyed it, with a bit of polish and balancing it could be really great.

I couldn't find out how the battle works. Clicking on the buttons bottom-left corner does nothing. It was hard but I figured out that it's realtime and not turn based and need to click the icons on the top-left corner. But I don't know how damage is calculated and I'm almost always missed. Moreover the other kitten isn't done anything but mine just died anyway from nothing.

I loved the concept but missed some polish. No intuitive feedback on the buttons when you click, sometimes it doesn't work and I have to click again, and wait a while to see if it triggered something.

I'm still giving you guys a good rate because the graphics are very pretty and the overall is good. I'm sure more time would be enough for you to polish the game.

Congratulations. =)
