EVILUTION by GothFraex
Not quite finished and somewhat flexible with the theme...
Use WASD to move.
Use < and > to turn (actually bound to "," and ".")
Survive the maze!
NOTE: If you're having trouble going through the EXIT door then you've probably doubled back and found the beginning again. I should have had separate door textures but at this point I'm going to go ahead and call it a feature...

By the way, for different keyboard layouts (europeans?) turn buttons are:
< = ,
> = .
My keyboard has < and > on the same key, before z!
Restarted and managed to run away and explore the maze. Love the graphics - the vines help to set the mood well.
Gameplay mechanic is simple but works really well. I'm not sure where the theme comes into the design though (other than the title) - I thought the maze might have been generated or something but it looked the same to me.
Regardless, one of the better games I've played so far
Sorry about the keybindings. I was having some trouble when the turning was bound to right and left. You couldn't turn right while moving diagonally. It seemed to work for every other key except right. It was a last minute decision to assign it to ">". I don't think I can change the keys now that it's submitted.
Is that a software 3D engine? Yes? Neat! Gotta respect the dedication it takes to do that. And it doesn't have any weird graphical glitches, either.
I love the graphics and how the game feels, but music and sound would have been really nice. And like ollie, I can't see the relation to the theme.
Sorry about that
The start and end points of each level both have the same texture (with EXIT on them). You can only go through the door at the end of each level. Maybe people are doubling back and finding the first door again? I should really have given them different textures...
Unfortunately this is as far as I got within the 48 hours. The fact that you keep the same health throughout the levels does kind of make it scarier as you progress, but that's definitely not enough to fit the theme.
Fun! :)
Really like the "oldschool" rendering and movement style. Could imagine that some matching background track and hit/hurt samples would improve the atmosphere even further.
For my taste the window is a bit to small but had some kind of "evolution" after finding out how to dodge enemies in front of you within narrow areas.
I gave up after a few attempts without finishing the first level. Maybe making the level smaller or giving me some way of feeling like I'm making progress (different wall textures ) would help keep me hooked.
Really nice engine, though.
