My Pairs and Me by Evilion

[raw]
made by Evilion for LD24 (COMPO)
"My Pairs and Me lived together on a small island. They were mostly idiots, and I had to struggle to make this little world turns to peace...or maybe they crucified me and they all burn in hell now ? I don't remember exactly, I think I was drunk all the time..."

You control a messiah with WASD, and you can thrown lightnings by clicking. On a randomly generated little island, you will be able to transform the environment and lead your little tribe, that will evolve in a way or another. With a little chance, your pairs will become workers, and a small society will develop. Or maybe some of them will prefer to become animals ? Or will they revolt against you and try to put you on a cross ?

It's a sandbox game I think, you'll have to try many times to succed to make something with it...

I suggest you read this article to understand a little better (maybe) : http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2012/08/30/post-mortem-of-my-pairs-and-me-or-what-the-hell-all-this-thing-is-maybe-about/

Had no clue what was going on, but it had it's charm. A bit buggy character physics at times.

I have no idea what's going on in this one, I think that the population is evolving and building stuff, and my mission is to make the ground explode with my lightning-rod?^^ I liked it, no apparent goal, still had fun for a couple of minutes trying to figure it out.

I like the premise but not so much the execution. I think the problem is it's not at all clear what happens when you take action. I started to roast things with my lighting bolts and sometimes people would die, sometimes not, sometimes a new building would appear. It was all very confusing. I would try to tight up the cause and effect in the game.

I didn't understand how my actions affected the world. Buildings and evolution would appear independent of my interaction, it seemed.

Yeah in fact the world can works without any of your move, but there are some actions that can help or make more difficult a thing or another to happen.

Violence and fear decrease the happyness, where more place (2 free block at the top of a dirt block) and food increase it. Happyness increase the chance to a huy to become a lumberjack, a farmer or a fishman. An electric shock decrease the violence, but increase the fear. More a guy is violent, more he is a chance to hit another guy. When a guy is hurt, he becomes more angry, more violent.

Anyway there is no real goal, I like to say it's a sandbox thing, an experience =3

One of my dudes decided to build a windmill, and the rest went swimming for about ten minutes. I'm not sure what I'm MEANT to be doing, but that was cool.

I killed everyone except a farmer. Then I removed ground to let the fish free from its pool. Had a good laugh, fun game, but not obvious what to do.

I didn't get what the point was, it has a very unique style, though. Good experience :D

I did not have a single clue to what was going on - It was so confusing. You destroyed cubes, a random guy started fishing, I killed everyone, I started growing, etc...

I didn't really understand the concept, but maybe that was the point? Anyway, it's quite interesting. It just missed some guidance on what to do.

I have no idea what I did, but stuff happened, so I just focused on zapping everyone with lightning! An experience for sure!

So much incomprehension, my computer couldn't handle it and froze twice :(
Well, it was kind of fun to kill everyone in cold blood (they attacked me first, it was self-defense !)

was rather confused by the game. but i guess it was the same for the people that meet the real messiah. so, great mood! :-)

Very odd. Very odd. In a good way, though.

Looks pretty cool!... even though I didn't have the slightest idea of what was going on. I read your explanation but it didn't seem to help any. I think adding some sort of GUI with average values or something might help to clear up a bit of confusion. I did notice a bug where if you ate too much your speed would go past 0 into the negatives. This happens to other people in the game too and messes up the AI. But the concept was nifty and the graphics were well done!
