It's fine you've tried to make something with what you know! No matter what others tell you. But if you wanna do something better for your next Ludum Dare, you should take a look a some programming libraries like XNA or SFML. If you want to make a game that works for every OS, you should take a look a Java, or Javascript\/HTML5.
