Ludum Card Evolution by Atridas
A card game designed arround the concept of evolution.
It's almost 100% of what I designed, so I am very proud of it (you where suposed to have 5 creatures in the 2nd half of the game, but I didn't have time to implement that, and nevertheless, it does not feel bad the way it is played right now).
The code on googlecode does not contain the songs, you will need to add them (are 01.ogg and 02.ogg) if you want to recompile from source, sorry.
************* IMPORTANT **************
I didn't realize I couldn't use art/music found on the web even if it was CC (I thought I could because you CAN use code found on the web that is free software, here my confusion).
So I removed those assets (well I didn't, they are still bundled, I just removed all references to them, but that's technicisms) and republished it. You can play the original game as I posted a link to it (only web version, executable is only "valid" compo version).
********************* MAC USERS!!!! ********************
I don't own a MAC, so I can't test the game under mac. Today I tested it in work and found that mac does not come with Java7, so I translated my game to Java6. If anyone happens to own a mac and the game runs, please tell me in the coments, so I can sleep pacefully, otherwise I'll have to wait untill Monday to test it again.
(If it doesn't work, post all details you can, they may be helpfull, specially if you run it from console).
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Music is awesome.
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: cat/atridas87/ld24/LD24 : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0
Are there any dependencies one should know about?
You should make a pdf file or something with the rules and printable cards, I'd like to see this played with other players.
I will vote on this, but if the entry contain arts you didn't make I think it make your game ineligible for 48h compo. It's a shame because those arts dont add much to your game, I think you should have spent one hour drawing simple shapes on gimp (or other )
Anyway, I like the game. The concept is neat and strongly linked to the theme.
In my mind it could be related to 2 issues:
1 - using Java 7
2 - using OpenGL > 3
but may be almost anything, 'cause I used a engine I never used before, so I'm in the dark.
@Benjamin: I didn't add art post compo, just art copyright notices for images I found in the web, and the music, so you can find it too, I think is wonderfull.
And yes I should make a table version of this game. I'm actually planning on doing a free Android version for the Octover Challenge, and then I will see if I do something else with it.
I really enjoyed creating the game mechanics and I do want to play this game agains a human (AI in this game isn't very strong, if you noticed :D)
The "using premade art" thing is a pretty big problem, and a real shame because I don't think it would have taken you very long to remake the art. This may get you disqualified. :(
By the way, nice try!
The music was good at first, but it got a little repetitive after a while (imho).
I did like the graphics. Kind of programmer-art, but with extra rainbows.
But, the fact that you used things that weren't made during the compo time period and weren't made by you makes this against the rules of the Compo, and needs to be moved to the Jam. Sorry man!
And bonus points for making a card game!
Great to see a card game, I really liked it!
