No Hope In Hell by team_disposable

No Hope In Hell is our Ludum Dare entry.

We made a game. It is called "No Hope in Hell". You are a devil. You can kill other denizens of hell, and some you can become. You have one goal - escape hell. You have no hope in hell.

It is our first ludum dare game. In fact, it is our first game. It is much shorter then intended. We had an awesome time making it. These two facts are probably not unrelated. And if you are the kind of person who enjoys hastily put together hell-themed metroidvanias, then please enjoy our sweet, glorious mess. The music is by SB. I am aware hell is probably less pink/mauve. Comments!

The game has nice graphics, suiting musing, it's hard. I wasn't a fan of the camera slides, but good game. The jump and attack rarely work the first time I press the button though.

The graphics looks nice, but it's really hard to control.

Controlls are kind of unresponsive so it's really unconfortable to play. But graphics and sound are great! With some tighter controlls and a little more focus on the mechanics, it may improve a lot.

Congrats on getting your first game out there! I found the biggest obstacle to be the camera - and i'm not 100% sure how it relates to the theme...

Well done!

Really good job! I really liked this one even though I could not really find a link with the theme, but it brought me back good memories from Oddworld ^^ I really enjoyed it, and the fact that I didn't know what the main character was.

I had been using Unity for some time and I could give you some tips if you don't mid:

-Fix the phisics. Specially gravity.

-Remember to set the friction with de walls and other enemies to 0 or your Rigidbodies will get stuck as long as you apply an horitzontal force to them.

And that is pretty much everything. Keep it up, I'm willing to see your next project at the next Ludum Dare!

Thanks for the feedback, that's all really helpful! I will definitely go for less "floaty" next time.

Also, we had a whole bunch of shapeshifting - the code is there to change in to all of the different creatures you see and few more we have graphics for but no animations - but I didn't quite budget for the amount of time required to make the actual levels. Rookie mistake!

really curious game, graphism are strange but it reminds hell in a good way, the sound is a little bit too much distorted but the idea of the composition is good :) nice ideas

Im not so much a fan of the controls or camera, but I like the gameplay and presentation quite a bit.

Sound was so hard for some reason. And the camera movement was a bit too sudden, and my guy needs a health bar.

Nice visuals and tense music, pretty hard to play and the camera moving when changing direction is really off putting. Fun though, well done.

Aside from unresponsive controls, odd sliding camera (is the character the parent of the camera? I'd suggest the camera to follow the character instead) and the tense-but-a-bit-annoying BGM, you guys did a great job! Really, almost every Ludum Dare game has bugs and/or unfinished content, the important part is the thrill of it (which you seem to have felt) and what you could finish in time. I hope you'll keep participating in Ludum Dare because it's very fun.

Too bad there was no relation to the theme in this version, but I like the atmosphere in the game a lot, and would like to see more of it! The current version is fun, if a little too hard. XD You guys weren't joking when you said "No Hope In Hell"!

I escaped from hell! :-P

Camera scrolling was really confusing and stressful, looking from one side to the other should have a smoother transition.

The game needs to be more polished but it's pretty cool that you did this on your first LD! :-)

cheers!

I liked the tutorial in the background and the atmosphere was very effective, but the controls were slow (platformers need fantastic, reactive controls) and the camera was jarring.
