Gapaos by mipi

[raw]
made by mipi for LD24 (COMPO)
VITAL INFO:
-There's no damage taken indicator on the end boss, also it takes a lot of hits to kill. Also you should find 3 places to enter from the map, if you want help finding them or otherwise completing the game, check the end of this description. You can't find anything near the boundaries of the map.

Controls:
-arrow keys, esc, space and a mouse button.

What is it?
-Well it's a platformer game, with some other stuff too, you'll see! I used my LD23 entry as my codebase.

EDIT:
-Removed few sfx sounds, as I created them during my previous LD entry. Made "last minute typo" kind of small fixes. No new features were added.

WALKTHROUGH:
-You find all 3 locations from the same continent you start from, they are all relatively close to one another. Additional 2 other things you should find from the map can be found near the places where there are text on the map. After that it should be easy if you hover around the 3 locations. 2 Black stones can be found here: 1st on the Big Rock, up there on the air. 2nd is on the Bunker, right from the Witch.

I think you should give us the "spoiler" because the controls were not obvious.

I moved to the bunker, entered but had no idea what to do?

I loved the feel of the boss levels/area...the rock look was original.

Thanks for the game/

So it's not evolution or creation. Mankind evolved through WITCHCRAFT! Brilliant!

Interesting start but I couldn't find the second black stone. Wandered around the whole map but couldn't find anywhere else to go besides the big rock and the ? guy. Well interesting visual style to say the least.

I really enjoy the art and the mood. The game is pretty rough though.

I like the concept. I hope you keep on working on that!

I like the quirky graphic style to this. I wasn't sure what to do after visiting all 3 locations though. I explored the rest of the map, but couldn't find anything else on it.

Just wanted to let you know I did find the bunker (in retrospect not sure how i missed it the first time through) but after getting my magic power I still had no idea what to do.

Nice graphics style and gameplay but is there more than 3 locations? And what can we do against the ghosts in the black hole? I tried to shoot them but it doesnt do anything.

Neat idea but there is not enough content (or maybe it is to hard to find out?)

Oh right, should have undestood quicker what the real problem is. There is no damage taken indication to the ghosts, this was due I hadn't time to make it on the end and it's kind of vital feature missing.

Need to update the infos.

Baffling.

The text is almost illegible and the 'rocks' are almost invisible against the background. What were you thinking?!

I like the exploration and plattforming gameplay, but couldnt find a second cave. design should respect accessability and player feedback more, feels quite rough

this game looks good but its too short and no music for a music button. if you worked on it more, then it would be a game. the eveolution theme doesnt even play in. whats the point? not a very good game.

I like the game structure! The idea of going around on the map and "discovering" locations is fun, I think it just needs some more explanation to the player so that he understands what he's supposed to do. Also the boss is the only action oriented part, which is a rather shocking way to even introduce the player to the shooting mechanics. Maybe an easier combat could be presented in an earlier level, so that the player knows how to move and shoot before the final fight?
I liked the unusual aesthetics, it really causes a sense of strangeness. And touching the father envy theme was interesting! I got the 'family structure' message, thought it was pretty cool. Congrats, and keep participating to keep evolving! ;)
PS.: Your game's structure (moving around a topview map to discover locations which you then explore in a platformer view) is similar to the one we use in our project, The Journey of Eko! Actually, our blog's description for the game literally is "platforming action and combats in a physics-based environment with exploration on an old school topview map" (http://www.pixelcows.com/p/the-journey-of-eko.html). I loved to find an entry here that follows the same structure! ;)
If you happen to keep developing this exploration system or add new mechanics to it, pls tweet me or something! @pixel_cows
I'm always looking for novel ideas about this concept (which was actually the structure of Zelda 2, for NES. Neat!)

()! If you happen to develop this game or this exploration concept further, please

Ehh, I didn't really understand this game at all. I found the places you mentioned, and entered one of them (end boss?) but how do I do anything to him...

@phren did you read the walkthrough? It's on the end of the description, should help. But maybe I'm just presuming that people get it and I havn't made good enough instructions for this game, but I've tried.

Hmm, I think I actually wasn't able to move after I entered the bunker.
