Cellular Division 101 by MasterBaldwin
Welcome to my first Ludum Dare entry game page!!!! It's a wacky, wavy, inflatable, arm-flailing tube game page warehouse and imporium!!! So I wanted to make a game about the evolution (thus natural selection) of the single celled organism world. But alas, I spent WAY to much time watching Dr. Who. So my game is only half done, a little bit broken, and I had to implement the scoring system at the very end.
The goal(now) is to keep away from the big cells, but murder the small cells. You can of course attack whomever you want tho. If your health reaches zero, you die, obviously. :O
The cells do have the ability to mutate(which you do not), and they do follow loose guidelines of natural selection. Now because of how the AI is coded, they tend to look like they are just randomly moving about (which I guess sometimes they are) but for the most part they are hunting, or fleeing. Because they mutate, they can and WILL get stronger faster and bigger. But it's quite interesting to sometimes see the small quick ones escape detection and rapidly grow their numbers. But beware, sometimes small ones can be VERY strong.
Note!!: I have a 2.something ghz cpu, and once cellular count reached, around 500, I was getting under 30fps. Sorry :(
Enjoy!!
P.S. There is no end :( Post your score!

Don't get me wrong, watching Doctor Who is a wonderful pastime, but I personally think it would have been worth it if you worked on this a bit more instead.
Also, as a game that involves size, I think it's important to have some sort of visual indicator of who is bigger than me and who is smaller. Because when the difference is small, it may be hard to tell, and those few seconds (or milliseconds) to judge may be frustrating. Osmos did this in a really intuitive way, where the bigger cells turned red and the smaller ones turned blue.
I think the movement could be a bit smoother too. But overall, solid effort!
For me the circular view doesn't work. It fits the them very well, but I do feel my field of view is too narrow.
Next time do more, its promising.
I could hardly ever catch a smaller cell and they just seemed to damage me whenever I did.
