Social Evolution by Jorjon

[raw]
made by Jorjon for LD24 (COMPO)
Controls: WASD or ARROWS
Instructions: Avoid red, take yellow, get girls, get Lucy.

Your goal is to date Lucy. In order to do that, you first need to reach your maximum evolution by gaining attributes (getting a car, going to the gym, etc) and avoiding others (overweight, etc).
Also, you need to date all the girls before Lucy, because that will increase your popularity among girls.

Done in 24 hours with no framework (only FlexSDK + FlashDevelop).

Nice vignetting and color aberration. The source's missing though.

Haha, cute. Avoiding/collecting the deadly flying life changes was pretty fun. It made me laugh that you had to get married to improve your dating pool.

Very nice chromatic aberration effect! I like the idea of being a Game Developer is a feature not a bug.

I like the retro effect.
I found it hard to tell what upgrades were happening to my character. Instead of the text in the corners, it would be cool to see the character evolving visually.
Nice work.

I really liked your graphical style! The little things like the shadow-girls in the background improve the game immensely.

This was an interesting game! I think you should get a "game over" when you try to go for Lucy too many times without being ready -- maybe with different endings?

I guess trying to make your self attractive to mates fall into the theme of "evolution"... somewhat. But it is funny/weird that Lucy won't go out with you unless you are married! :-P

Thanks for the game! I really liked it!

I like the game - cute, and the old-CRT-video look is cool. There wasn't too much to the game, although it was still fun to run around, and the upgrades were funny. It was hard to read all the stuff as I was playing, but was "Married" a positive? That seems hard to believe. But great sense of humor, and a fun take on the theme this time. Great art, too. Nice work.

Good game. I liked the graphics. But I didn't really know what was going on with the powerups. Wasn't sure if I was supposed to catch them or avoid them. I mostly tried to avoid them. Also, not sure what objective was because after a while, there were no more girls for me to touch.

finally a humor contender.

Loved the effects on the visuals, caught on to the gameplay pretty quickly, and finally beat it!

I liked the style, and the simplicity. I just wish there were a bit more to it.

Seriously, dude? The goal of this game is to hook up with women you aren't interested in, to use them as tools to make the other ones jealous so you can date the one you *are* interested in? This isn't fun, it's sociopathic.

Very very nice game. The visual effect was fantastic, and it was quite challenging (what a huge hitbox) but still beatable.

Fast and fun.
Annoying at the end trying to dodge the onslaught of bad, especially if you need to get one good thing.

Nice effects on the colors and vignetting.

Cool sprites and retro filters! I definitely appreciated the old-skool style. The gameplay felt a little hollow though. Perhaps if you wanted to develop this further, you could make more of a visual connection when the player gets the upgrades, e.g. he buys a car and all of a sudden the character is driving around in a car for instance.

0. Nice post-mortem post!
Wow, a nice and fun game! Funny too :)
I think the graphics look good too - practice makes perfect :)
The gen. music is not bad at all.
Loved that being a video game dev is a perk (aren't those broke by default?) haha
Does not really fit the theme... although... there's no evolution without reproduction, right? :)

Lovely presentation and quite fun to play.

I feel sorry for all those ladies, though. The player character is a jerk! :)

Hilarious game! As I was glancing at the upgrades and negative efects, I thought it was entertaining what kinds of things would happen if my character ran into certain tiles. The art style is cool, although I was initially confused as to why there were so many "ghosts" of girls lingering around. Great work! It was fun!

Nice and simple. Not really about evolution in my opinion but it's fun to play, but a little short. You shouldn't complain about your pixel art skills, sprites are okey. Music is also good - not giving me the mood though. The CRT effect is awesome! :)

Maybe some more specific stat collecting would give it some spice. Like have to find out what kind of guy she likes, getting information from the other girls...

Theme-wise this is pretty sexist. 'Married' being a good attribute to date Lucy? Damn, I got things mixed up in real life! :)
Nice retro feel, and the gameplay was pretty decent, though simple. A very good, polished entry, and a very good post-mortem. Good job!

Haha! Awesome idea with nice visuals! Really enjoyed playing it and reading all "console messages" ! Moving those console messages to top center would help a little to notice them during playing.

Wish this game was longer, although I was confused to what I should have been doing at first, once I figured it out, it was a very simple. The graphics were great, nice little shader, sound in there was OK too for such a short development time. Feels like you brute-forced the topic into your game lol...Overall though, I loved the lush graphics, I also like the event window, especially when I ate McDonalds.

Nice effect. It lagged quite a bit for me but overall good. Not really seeing a huge connection to the theme.
