Lucas's Quest Backwards by Volute

[raw]
made by Volute for LD24 (JAM)
Does evolution of mankind always go forward ? What about backwards and sideways ?
In the year 35 000 something, the humans have changed a lot. Lucas dreams about the humans from before and wishes he could live with them...
... and why not be like them.

Lucas's Quest Backwards is a platformer game with a story about love, time travel and pursuit of the self.
There are 2 endings to discover !

[X], [UP] : jump
[C], [SPACE] : fire (if you have chosen the path of violence)

** This game includes kittens. **

Simple, no frills fun. There was a nice bit of variety in the level design as well. I dug the cutscenes a lot.

Great work! I think I met the bad ending :P but it's a cool story. Hard platforms levels, I love it!

Wow! Your game left me feeling utterly confused, empty, and somehow mentally destabilized... i love it ._.

Great, great humor - I initially wanted to tell you about your floaty movement mechanic and sometimes repetitive level design elements but this crazy weird story just made up for everything.
You had me laughing for the first time this LD - it's just awesome how your characters and the whole game are constantly mocking themselves. Very enjoyable!

Really good level design! And a nice varity of block types that make the game fun.

Haha, I love the hook and story. Talk about loaded questions with those options, though!

The platforming is solid for prototyping but I got used to seeing "PRESS ENTER TO RESTART THE LEVEL" ...

I played twice to get the two endings, and I must tell you this is brillant.
The game is good of course, it's a sweet platformer, challenging and all, but the story makes it even greater. But you know what is the greatest ? That choice at the beginning of the game! Having to chose the ending at the very beginning is a really frustrating and interesting idea.

Really nice graphics and subtle use of sound. Story was realized really well and the cutscenes were a definite highlight.

Unfortunately the floaty movement combined with constant jumping levels turned me off from the nice presentation.

Nice graphics and cute cut scenes.

The game itself is a chore to play though :(. The controls are awkward and the levels feel really repetitive. If you shortened the levels so the player gets to see new stuff a bit more quickly, that should help. I think the player movement needs some tuning to be fun too, but I'm not sure exactly what is missing.

Unfortunately I got fed up with the gameplay before I got to the end so I guess I probably missed some of the best stuff. Sorry :(.

Nice story! The dialogue is tigh, I didn't want to skip it that much :).

Love the bit in the level-design where you see the time-machine, but then it turns out it's far more distant than first anticipated

Nice platformer with challenging levels! Fun story, but, somehow I wish that the 2 endings were more different.

Loved the story, and the platforming wasn't bad either. I don't use all caps often, but THANK YOU FOR INCLUDING CHECKPOINTS. It seems like a luxury feature when your working over a weekend, but there's no way I would have played to completion without them. Great job!

That's a pretty nice game, didn't finished it yet but there seems to be a lot of content. The platformer parts are a bit long however, I would have prefer to advance in the story faster.

I EFFIN' LOVED THE GAME! :) Amazingly well done. Lovely graphics, neat humor, cool atmospheric music/sounds. I played it from start to end despite the fact I suck at platformers (really, I died once for each kitty in the temple).

The game seemed great but the controls plus the really tricky levels finally made me rage quit. It took a long time though, I died to lasers like 500 times before I finally tossed in the towel. The game is great, just make the character a little less slidey!

Great game! Best score! :)
But pls, make option for switching after-death-screen-fading. I'm not skilled player and die often. And after death screen fading nervous me. :(
