Evo Space by edibletoaster

[raw]
made by edibletoaster for LD24 (COMPO)
Instructions on the title screen.

It's survival of the fittest weapon - The longer you keep your weapons alive, the better they become.

Get to the end without losing all your lives!

Also you can move on the title screen to get to the tutorial (go right)

Couple things: the Z-Field let's you affect the movement of asteroids, turns enemy ships around, and deflects bullets. If it deflects a bullet, you can't use the Z-Field for a short time.

Works best in Chrome. Firefox works fine, but missing one nice webgl effect.

Really neat, I like the feel of it and the reflecting bullets, but dodging enemies and attacks is very difficult.

This game is really hard, but I like the concept. Not too sure how well it fits the theme. The tutorial was awesome.

I feel like one hit kills are a little over-zealous given the reflecting bullets mechanic, but that doesn't matter so much when the game is so fast-paced and fun :)
Not sure if it fits the theme so well, but this is good entry all the same!

Awesome. Loved that you could grab guns in any direction, letting you hit enemies at difficult angles easier.

I liked the Asteroids inspired vector graphics look, the chill music and the nicely integrated tutorial on the title screen, but the controls made it really hard to aim and dodge at the same time. Was the fact that the asteroids deflect bullets an attempt to make up for that? Also, the enemy bullets were so tiny and moved to quickly that I could never really make a conscious attempt to dodge them. I just relied on luck basically.

Anyway, it was still interesting with the "collect the guns" and "evolving guns" mechanics but this is definitely a game for a joystick, not a keyboard.

Interesting idea, has some nice music, but it's hard to really get into the game.

I'm a fan of vector gfx so I knew as soon as it started I would enjoy this. Very good music. Really really tough game.
After 10 attempts I could still barely pass the larger asteroid wall.

Nice functional presentation. I like the music piece.
Controls are a bit confusing at first and the movement is perhaps a bit too quick being that you die very easily :)

This rocks! Personally I'd ditch the concept of only 3 lives (never make your LD games too hard), and the need to press X (because there is no reason to not shoot), but otherwise this is a great idea.

I like this game. The controls would be better if [up] is for foreward and [left/right] for rotation. But it's nice that I can place the weapons where i want. Overall this game is really fun. Well-done.

I really think this could go places. Once I got how it worked something clicked and I definitely think it would be tons of fun for any shmup fan.
