The Dark Room by Laralyn

[raw]
made by Laralyn for LD35 (COMPO)
You're in limbo, in darkness. One day, you hear a soft thudding that slows--you recognize it and realize you can move. You can leave the darkness. But who are you? What are you? And what is this strange pull you feel to electrical objects--the urge you have to *become* them?

KNOWN ISSUES

* Clicking the forward marker ( > ) in conversations more than once causes the revealed text to repeat.

* The game may not seem to be about shapeshifting at first... but it is. :-)

I did not play through the entire game but I really like it so far!

I liked it! I love choose your own adventures. It was a bit cyclical sometimes (a lot of options took you round in loops), but the music/mood was great, and the story was interesting. Good job :)

Not bad! I liked the music, although it could have used some more variety. Nice work.

Can it be completed? I reached a "To Be Continued" point.

Very cool though, well-written and intriguing. I want to know what happened!

Great writing! Though I did not conclude the story yet, I intend to. Nice to see some story based games in the jam for variety. Well done!

I fell back into the darkness :_S

Great entry. Besides cleverly fitting the theme, the plot is engaging and well written, and the subtle music and sound help a lot to define the eerie atmosphere.

Awesome job!

Absolutely great. From the very beginning, the mood was perfectly defined, both the darkness and the eeriness of the house in disrepair. I felt like there was a chilling sense of suspense as you try to learn more about yourself and what happened, but also a fitting helplessness as you wander around the house.

One moment I found really effective was when you're watching the body decay - clicking "decay" over and over reinforced the outside-of-time feeling, if that makes sense.

Also, I liked clicking ">" to advance dialogue rather than navigating to a new passage, it was the right level of interactivity. Overall, very well-executed and an effective, chilling story.

Great writing, the bits in the start were brilliantly setting the tone of the entire read, complemented by the music.

I think I would've wanted a bit more interactivity.
